Glad to discover (having read through the full thread) that others have had to make a branch appointment to verify identity. I've just arranged to go in.

The T&C (and also one example that they give) state that you don't have to have a large income if you have investments with Barclays, which I do. Doe anyone have information about what one needs to tell them so that they can confirm this is correct.

Should I pay the £4k in to Barclays before the switch or after?
  • Last week i set up two direct debits in Natwest in order to move to Barclays, they arent showing on the Natwest App but I have received email confirmation that they are now set up. Does this count as Active? No payments will be taken untill middle of December as thats when they do their payment collection runs, by which time the offer at Barclays expires.

Does anyone know if this will be sufficient to benefit from the switch offer?

I paid in £4k before the switch, literally paid the money in then took it back out 5 minutes later. Got a text that I’ve qualified for the switch offer.

Hi All, I've never switched my current account which is joint, and have no real desire to do so. But, this looks attractive. Do people actually switch their main current account or is there a way around that? Do the direct debits have to be to 3rd parties or can they be just moving funds to other accounts?

Any DD but not Standing Orders.
  • I'm thinking of doing the £200 switch offer. Have opened a second Chase account in the app and have updated the direct debits from a couple of credit cards that I rarely use so that they're taken from this Chase account (these have not appeared yet). However, on the Barclays site it doesn't mention about direct debits just about paying in the £2000.

I don't see any reason you need to switch your "main" bank account... nor bother to arrange for your salary to be paid into the Barclays account, if you can get the £400 just by paying in £4000 from any source?

I assume if you don't continue to pay around £4k in a month they could downgrade the account and you'd lose the rest of the benefits (it would be simpler if they just set out a clear amount that needs to be paid in, like most other accounts with some sort of perks do, so we don't have to second guess whether they might suddenly close the account at some future date, or start charging a monthly fee, etc).

Opened an account yesterday and filled in switch. Is it normal not to get any sort of confirmation?

On a side note, does anyone know how to access the included rewards like Apple TV? Tells me I need to pay £5 even though I opened premier account.

Unfortunately they don't make it clear but you have to wait a few days for Apple TV then a few more days to be able to make payments etc
