So it's now working, but I'd advise checking the rates to make sure it is actually cheaper, as it doesn't add up for me.

I'm currently paying for gas - 5.57p/kWh, standing charge 28.29p/day. Electricity 23.49p/kWh, standing charge  47.60p/day.

However, CEC thinks I'm paying for gas 5.851p kWh, standing charge 29.708p per day. Electricity 24.661p kWh, standing charge 49.983p per day.

And yes, I have selected the correct tariff in CEC (
    Octopus 12M Fixed December 2024 v1).

The NEW Octopus deal is actually MORE expensive than what I'm currently paying, even though CEC thinks I will make a 4% saving on the new deal.

My current deal runs out on the 15th December, but if I switch now, I will be paying MORE for fuel for the next two months. I assume the calculator assumes I will be moving to the expensive, flexible tariff when my current deal expires, but it doesn't make sense to switch now.

It does look 12 months ahead and assumes you go onto the default (expensive) tariff when the current one ends. Of course it makes a best guess at what the variable tariff will be.
So there may be no short term saving, but possibly a longer term one as you don't know what tariffs will be available when the current one ends.
It's a gamble, hence the attraction of zero exit fees, which the BG tariff doesn't have...

Yes, but CEC 'thinks' I am currently paying more than I actually am.

Surely the basis for calculating future savings/expenditure needs to involve getting the current tariff correct?

You're not comparing rates with and without VAT perhaps?

I was! It makes sense now; I assumed the values displayed on CEC would be net and they're not. Thanks for enlightening me.

Has anyone actually received a confirmation from either CEC or BG that the switch is being processed? I applied on 1st October. Not expecting anything to be done yet - they must be inundated - but an auto-response is usually standard for such things.

I've had mine and my account is setup with BG. Was initiated by BG on the 1st and done by the 3rd.

Just received an apology email from Cheap Energy Club saying the ineligibility message was an error.  I've now done the 'switch' but as an existing Octopus customer it is a bit clunky.
It treats me as a a new customer and wants new direct debit details. And the account name field does not accept enough characters to put in joint names - which I am guessing many customers will be paying from.
We've recouped our massive (small!) haul of octoplus points in case our account gets reset to zero. It will be interesting to see if Octopus see us as existing customers?

Received the same mail this morning and have now (I hope!) been able to switch to the exclusive Octopus tariff. I was also an existing customer, which the system knew, but still had to re-enter direct debit details etc. Fingers crossed it all goes through okay.

That's quick! I've done a follow-up email to CEC just to make sure the process has begun. Don't want to pester them but I don't want to miss out either!
