I found it helpful to think about it like this. The getting rid of stuff helps to improve the decision making process. It acts as evidence for future declutter but also future buying decisions.
I also found it quite freeing to throw things away- like I was releasing a hold they had on me.
Perhaps you are releasing the things you didn't like from your old life to allow space for the things you did.8 -
Just caught up., Brave decision with doglet. And clutter, the more that goes the easier it becomes to decide what next.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!8 -
Glad doglet is in a happy new home.
I've realised there's very little I need to be happy. Others in the household not so much. You're doing great with the decluttering

Thank you everyone. More positive feedback on how Doglet is settling from a friend who has visited her which is good. I know I have done the right thing for her.
I am trying to focus on a single room rather than scatter gunning, and questioning why I keep everything in it. Vaguely working to 'could I fit everything in a corsa?' as my benchmark although obviously 'would I pay to move this to a new house?' is fairly key to everything. It is surprising how many things I had kept out of sheer habit, despite not actually even seeing them anymore. I was looking at some old photos of how much better the house looked when it was relatively empty which helped too.
The trades are supposedly back here from Tuesday to start on the damp, lime pointing and render works, it is actually fairly dry outside so I should make an effort to clear the patio while I can. Time to get changed into some disposable too big clothes and get on with it. Just need to pick a positive playlist and find my outside headphones. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. The works have finally started, a month late but better than never. I keep telling myself that it'll be worth it for a warmer winter, but I am very peopled out. I've spent most of the day on the phone so I didn't have to do face to face with (clearly lonely/bored) workers.Lots of books left the building, and I've finally got the bric a brac people's pack so I can exit lots of brass and stuff that I have always disliked. Shifting my head round to exit 80% is scary but liberating. I just need to keep the focus going.
eating is once again fairly poor, and although my step count is high I haven't had time to exercise as such. Might regret that when I put some batteries in the scales.
lots of interesting thoughts about Christmas on other people's threads which have helped me to fine tune what I want and what I am willing to do going forwards. All part of the putting what I want first theory. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Please reinstall universe and reboot+++

Good on you for recognising what you need, and thinking hard about what suits you. Even contemplating getting rid of 80% is hard! Very glad the works have finally started. Why are the builders bored though?? Don't they have enough work to do?? Get them packing boxes of books!5

I suspect the builders are sharing their midlife crises with Redo … (I speak from experience! 😉🤷♀️)Cheery_Daff said:Good on you for recognising what you need, and thinking hard about what suits you.
