Rosie1001 said:Thank you , I can cope with that price on overrun
I will apply to change to octopus todayOn their E7 I don’t think you get a overrun at all so it will only be for when I’m on snug , probably around 3 months or so of the year
When I checked during Q2 snug rates for EM they were cheaper peak c10% and off peak c25%, but e7 cap so assume Octopus discounted at least SC have dropped as well.
I didn't worry about overrun as have none well within a minute of PC / mobile synced times - on my current meter, but after a swap to smets2 could have.
You got two quotes above but didn't show the rates only the monthly predictions.
I think your Northern // North East region GSP group _F so for e7 variable from tables here
https://octopus.energy/blog/energy-price-cap-jul-2025/
on DD thats
Peak 29.8514 p.kWh on e7 vs 29.63p snug
OFF Peak 12.9448 p/kWh on e7 - 9p snug -
But with switching as above for 9m , that delay has an impact on 9p, so you might want to guess at a true rate (*), so has For if now 11 min switching delay,
49m vs 11m for 1 hr boost makes 9p -> 12.78p equiv.
5h49 vs 11m for 6 hr core makes 9p-> 9.63p max, (*) assuming heaters still taking full charge after 5h49m.
And over a full 7 hrs an average if load full time of c10p/kWh. So c3p cheaper, not headline c4p off peak.
SC 53.2813p on e7, 55.95p snug - c2.7p more on snug, but still below Ofgem cap of 56.9p
Equiv to savings on 1 kWh off peak, and your currently using 8000 based on old 5+2 split rts.
[You'd have to do the same price comparisons at tge lower total fix rates or SC ?? - but given your likely only 1-2 months from heating in NE for moderate room temps Id park that until spring. My sis in Scotland has had hers activate this month on a hall at 13C midday set for 15, wheras Im baking in low 30s again in EM.]
Some of which I assume is summer hw tank (or am I just assuming that forgetting your hw is from other source having being told otherwise in past)
And the boost could be used mid afternoon for other heavy loads - washer or tumble dryer, weekend cooking maybe etc.2 -
So stay on snug all year round ??
ive already been given my account number and a sorry you are leaving us from Edf lol , I’m not sorry
even if snug doesn’t work out , I will make the E7 work for us somehow , with additional heating etc as needed1 -
Just been sent this … that was quick

Its difficult for me to remember your exact hw and any other hesting setup. And this and other threads getting long.
Have a look at your daily use in kWh by time slots, if your edf account still open (leaving the dd open often tge easiest way to get tge credit back - you should get their final bill within 6 weeks or that's even more compensation under Ofgem rules, and a refund soon after - 10 workng days / 2 weeks - or another compesnation iirc - perhaps repeating ).
Or even better when you have had a break, but before heating high use really kicks in look at your 1/2 hrly or easier still your new e7 peak off peak register readings after Octopus reset the meter. Which could be very soon if edf agreed the switch.EditOr even look back at last summers old e7 rts 5+2 off peak split - when no heating in use - might not be 100% as accurate but maybe a decent clue as to summer off peak use.Octopus online and or app seems to give good data access cf most others, i know the edf ones were "interesting" so we didnt rely on them in past threads like early April.
But getting back to present / future Octopus choices
Just a week ago you posted 2 Octopus quotes - its already 10 pages back on p29, tgd fix was c£9pm cheaper
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/81581703/#Comment_81581703
Did you make a note of tge rates for those quotes ?
Other forumites - are Octopus fix rates trending upwards ?(Ive seen suggestions Aug fixes are more expensive than July's in other threads - but not the rate shift)Those new fix rates are higher than expected based on that set - but the SC matches NE dd so assume my figures from the blog post above were right until corrected.
The difficulty is we dont know what the future holds, as to what will, happen to snug or variable, but prices have always had some seasonality, often hidden as suppliers only used to review prices like annually in past more stable markets.
So cannot say fix is good or bad at those rates cf future e7 rates or future snug for that matter either..
Only on face of it right now snug could be maybe c3.4p including for 11m if my 10p equiv correct - or 4.4p raw if use 9p - cheaper off peak and peak marginal on variable over penny cheaper currently vs that on fix..So even if you dont have any heating on now - Id expect maybe 5-6kWh per day just for hot water if off peak immersion tank including 2 tank fed showers daily (sadly mine isnt and I often have to shower at peak rate) - and if my 10p equiv for 11m timing mismatch fag packet guesstimate calc correct your going to paying c20p (if use 6x 3.4p) more per day for it than snug.AS you can see thats not a major cost and whilst on e10 - edit "you have probably been paying c5p premium on daily peak anyway" - and I know you will be happy for now just to have a working system and hopefully a much better customer service experience. But annually (edit) "as a high all electric user - that will quickly add up"over total of 8000 units 3.4p = £270.And on 2000 peak (should it be 2200), that fix is c£26 more (30.96-29.63) than your Snug quote.
So maybe just maybe if Ive got the maths right £300 pa / £25 pm if numbers correct vs current snug ( but you will note sometimes those are done at silly o clock when should perhaps be sleeping)
Well, at least until the next cap.
Perhaps another forumite will do the sums - the c2000 (2200 ?) vs 8000 off peak at raw snug rates is easy enough, but perhaps including the extra 11m c37p heaters in use during 11m offset for say 3-4 months 37px30 = c£11pm just for nsh over raw calc , as another forumite @Swipe calculated above or redo my adjusted for it off peak rates and not the raw rates as it clearly has you a bit worried / spooked.
But ax I saw right now, you probably need a "small break" from edf meter and billing traumas, and can afford to let things settle (at many other suppliers you'd have to quit a fix within 14 days notice period to avoid fees).

No fees to come off this new octopus tariff .. it’s been confirmed via email
to be honest , as long as my home is warm , if it costs me a few 100’s extra I would still be happy …
as long as I know what time my offpeak is etc … I’ll just try and forget about it … it really has been very challenging to get to this point as you all know

Re old bills was hoping for kWh use not £/pIs the bottom peak - and top off peak so Nov heating say already added £100 to off peak ?I'd still think of giving snug a go - worst case they cannot control your meter reliably - and like iirc @vienna28 and a couple of others they put you back onto bog standard e7 rates and register billing. And that "25 pays for extra heat if 1 hr boost not enough - or a little treat - even if only a coffee or 2 or a cheap lunch out - if it is.1
