I know what you mean. I'm having trouble understanding tge wording as well.crumpet_man said:Am I reading this incorrectly? Why does it even matter if you have previously received a switch bonus if you open a new Nationwide current account for the switch?
You can only get this offer if you're switching into a sole or joint account that hasn't had one of our switch offers since 2021.
If it is a new account then it cannot have had a switch offer.

On the terms page it actually shows:steven141 said:

You won’t get the offer if you’ve received one before
Which is not consistent with the wording on the offer page.
But there are the exceptions listed regarding sole and joint accounts so I think I can get at least one bonus for either me or my wife.

It's always* been the case that you're eligible once for a sole and once for a joint.*since 2021What isn't entirely clear from the wording is whether you're now eligible once per account. The offer page has changed wording which suggests it is, but the terms have similar wording to what they've always have stating that it isn't.I'm inclined to believe it's just some new copy not entirely matching the boundaries set out in the (largely static) terms, and so existing post-2021 switchers are not entitled to another payment (for sole/joint/both depending what they've had), but I'd love to be proved wrong on that.0

Thanks, just opened a Chase account and now got my "main" account with debit card, which is now on route to me. Was able to just open another current account. My second current account doesn't seem to have a debit card?lon_don said:
Worth a try. Since you are already a member, opening a new joint account would not trigger a CRA hard search (in theory) ? Then do the switch from 1 of your external accounts (open a quick Chase UK one if needed). Not too much hassle even if it turns out you are not eligible for bonus.pecunianonolet said:
The question is if we can now open a new joint current account, fulfil the criteria and receive the £200 or would we only be eligible if the joint account would have been opened pre 31st March and we are therefore not eligible if we only open a joint account now?
If I now open the Nationwide joint account, will I just need to type in the account details of that second current account I just created and tick that I have no debit card details? In all my switches I always was asked for the card details so a bit confused.
Do I need to apply via website or can I do it from the app so it pulls data in already and I only need to add OH details instead of going via website having to enter it all from scratch?

If it is a new account then it cannot have had a switch offer. If you had sole & joint offers last time then t's & c's state "You can’t get this offer if you’ve had one of our current account online switch offers in the past, which we began to offer in 2021". Switching into new a/cs won't qualify.2 -
Popular consensus (backed by my personal experience of switching albeit not into NW) is, either you tick "no debit card" if that choice is offered, or you input your main (and only) Chase debit card which is linked to your main Chase account (not the Chase donor account about to be switched) and Chase will still happily keep that debit card intact for you/not let it go with the switch.pecunianonolet said:

I don't remember the particulars about applying for a joint NW account. I'd say log into your own desktop online NW account and do it from there by following the instructions, rather than from the app.2 -
Perfect, all done now and ticked no debit card. I applied from desktop but not logged in and it went through all fine. Worst case we get a second profile created if they not merge it with the existing profile. With a second profile, if not merged, we should be able to get a second regular saver going too. Now created a direct debit with Paypal from my new Chase donor account and moved some credit card direct debits over as minimum 2 direct debits need to be switched together with the donor account. Went for 4 direct debits just in case one or the other doesn't get set up in time. Switch date is the 12th June.0 -
Better to read the T&C's than the marketing blurb.crumpet_man said:Am I reading this incorrectly? Why does it even matter if you have previously received a switch bonus if you open a new Nationwide current account for the switch?

You can’t get this offer if you’ve had one of our current account online switch offers in the past, which we began to offer in 2021. But there are 2 exceptions to this.
1. If you received the offer before on a sole current account, and you’re switching into a joint current account that hasn’t had the offer before, you can still get it.
2. If you received the offer before on a joint account, and you’re switching into a sole current account that hasn’t had the offer before, you can still get it.

I still maintain it is badly worded. I am switching into an account that has not had the offer before as that account did not exist before today.dumpster_fire2025 said:

I assume 2 direct debits from same provider such as Plum will qualify, or must they be different providers?0
