To answer your specific questions, and based on how SD works at the moment- as ebay are still tinkering with it. Firstly, if you offer free postage and load youritem price by £3.90 that's going to make you more expensive than other sellers, perhaps that's why you feel your own personal sales are slipping? Your buyers will pay a premium on that full amount, if I was selling the same widget then my item cost would be £3.90 lower than yours and the buyers premium less as well. My buyers would then see a postage cost of between £2.70 and £2.98 undercutting you by at least £1. My postage charges on SD look cheap as I also offer Evri.

Is this primarily targeted at private sellers?

At the moment SD is compulsory on private sellers, there is no option at all for business sellers to use it .

For many of my business items I would welcome being able to use SD as it takes away a lot of the stress and worry about INRs, and reduces the postage price seen by the buyer. However I accept I am probably unique in that as my business is now very small , I gave up using an RM business account a few years back as my volumes made it too expensive to be competitive. I imagine larger businesses with access to their own negotiated courier rates or specialised Rm accounts would be up in arms if this did get rolled out in any compulsory way to business sellers.

Sorry if this has been posted already on here but I have looked and cannot find it.

I have an item that would fit in a regular letter and weigh under 100g but I cannot find out how to change SD to reflect this.  The only options are large letter, small parcel, medium parcel.  The item is under £10 and would only cost 87p to post.  Has anyone found the solution to this?  I've been on the eBay community pages and no-one seems to know how to send regular letters.

What category are you listing in? I've just gone to two of my listings and clicked sell similar, in one category I can select large letter then custom postage and change it, in the other large letter comes up as sd only.
Just tried a third, same category as the one which came up as sd only and that one will allow it so could be a glitch.

I have sold two items, each worth under a fiver and wanted to combine the postage. ebay is saying that this is not possible, as they are involved with the postage. This seems unfair to the buyer and no doubt he'll think that it's me that is making him pay two postage amounts. I am a private seller.
    He hasn't yet paid

If the buyer hasn't paid I'd suggest they request a cancellation and then you relist the two items as a single listing and message them the link. As well as saving postage it will also reduce the buyer protection fee. Were your listings set to 'buyer pays' or 'you pay' postage? In either case I don't think ebay will charge for a label at least until the buyer has paid....

    Thanks for your idea

I think I'll just stick in the cash (in the package) to cover the extra postage. I feel a bit guilty a I have a comment on my listings saying "happy to combine postage"

If they are special delivery though then 2 lots of postage will be charged - and you must use both labels. I would leave it alone, send both items in different packages as otherwise you will be out the cost of one lot of postage as the cash refund will be out of your own pocket.

Also, I'd never ever send cash in a parcel anyway.

As it was, ebay actually sent the buyer an invoice with a combined postage figure.

I had actually messaged the buyer saying I was sorry, but was unable to send an invoice. I made the suggestion of cancelling and relisting as per the sugestion by 'Savergrant' so was pleased with the buyer expalianed about the invoice.

Who’d have thought eBay could be so sensible!

I've watched eBay fall into decline over three-plus years, and its clueless management team coming up with these ideas really doesn't have sellers in mind. They're bleeding themselves to try and replicate Vinted, but the sellers are leaving private and business. Since the implementation of the algorithm and making life more restrictive to list, sell, and make anything or get paid to purchase other items, eBay has been and is dying. Business sellers are now reporting their sales are showing as simple delivery errors also. Let's face it, since PayPal was removed, the algorithm switched on. Now the simple delivery driving sellers who sold to buy are giving up, sales are dropping drastically, and eBay is now a flapping fish out of the water without a clue what to do next. New management with traditional selling—oh, the live vlogs are just a distraction for people who would normally be browsing to buy.

People who sold daily are now seeing days of no sales. Because those people that were selling to buy are leaving in large numbers. Maybe a new platform will rise from the eBay, Vinted, whatnot, chaotic current carry-on.
