The new system is annoying. I just put an item up and stated it was a bulky item, then I was told Simply Delivery wasn't an option and I got back the options to choose. Can also change the shipping to 10 days again because I work and can't always get to the PO.

What annoys me, is I then did another listing, same bulky option and now it claims it fine and only Simply Delivery is an option! Its an issue because with the large Lego sets I sell, I have to make my own boxes for them. The post office always tell me "As its oversized it will have to go with Parcel Force and its cheaper anyway". Yet Parcel Force isn't an option.

So I assume because they got rid of fees, this is ebay's new way of making money out of a seller?

Is anyone having difficulty sending a shower gel or similar using simple delivery?  I spoke to eBay customer services who spent 40 minutes vetting my listing and couldn't find a reason why the simple delivery option wasn't available, they explored wether or not it exceeded Royal Mail's limit on liquid, prohibited ingredients or the category it was in, checked the listing description word by word to ensure none were flagged, eventually they gave up but agreed it should be eligible.
Yes, I was trying to list a facial cleanser set (unused gift) and it wouldn't offer SD, and as I still don't understand setting up postage policies etc I've put it on Vinted instead. I did wonder why it wasn't offering SD.

I know most people want a way to opt out of SD, but for some of my items I want a way to opt in. I've got a few small items that unfortunately are just large enough to have to go as a small parcel - which means I'm charging £3.35 when SD would offer them for less than £3. Psychologically under £3 seems to attract many more buyers- yet even trying to be a bit clever with categories (and not breaking rules about using the wrong category) these will not go as SD.

Last month I had some small pieces of silver jewellery, less than £15 in total- they would have been ideal as SD as ebay would take the risks - but I had to find the best solution I could to post them safely and insured.

I do have a couple of bits though that I would prefer to go via regular LL at £1.55 but aren't in an eligible category, so I can see both sides of the argument.

  • Hello just wondering if anyone has any insight. I'm listing small items with a value off less than £20 on Ebay that will fit in a standard envelope, which means before Ebay's simple delivery I could post them for £0.85p or £1.55 which was covered by Royal Mail up for £20 and kept costs to a minimum. Now I can only send these same items with simple delivery at £2.70 which is eating into my already minimal profits.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to put up with it? Thanks

Unfortunately the cost alone means it wouldn’t be exempt, so it will have to go as a tracked LL which will cost the buyer £2.70. However all private sellers are in the same boat, and of course it isn’t ‘profit’ as such so you should still be competitive against other sellers.

Have I experienced a glitch or has something changed?
Just starting a listing of a small ladies bag, when it got to postage it had the usual choice of sizes but then it listed a number of options including Yodel, InPost, DPD as well as RM & Evri?

In eBay announcements (6th Aug) it says they are adding new couriers.

Gosh I missed that one. I’m happy with virtually any courier if it gives a buyer choice. I have 2 local shops that between them cover Evri, Inpost,  Relay, Yodel and RM. Also DPD if that ever gets used. I sell on Vinted so usually go to both shops each day when I’m not working anyway.

Price rises for private sellers choosing Royal Mail only as their preferred courier.
In the eBay announcement 19th Aug.

Oh, that’s quite a big increase, I can see that making some people very unhappy. I rarely ever sell anything via RM , the only RM items are LLs that aren’t in the exempt category , everything else goes Evri.
