This is interesting - so any lost packages are covered by eBay and you do not need to go through the bother of claiming compensation for loss etc?

    Simple Delivery

We’ve introduced a new way to list and send your items called Simple Delivery. Use Simple Delivery during listing, and eBay will choose the right delivery option for your item. When your item sells, use the prepaid label and feel confident knowing your order is tracked and fully protected from loss or damage during transit. Once you’ve dropped off your item, eBay will handle any delivery related issues raised by your buyer with the chosen carrier on your behalf.

We’re gradually introducing this delivery option over the next few months so keep an eye out as you list.

This again matches the Vinted system. On Vinted all the couriers, apart from RM are integrated, although sellers have the opportunity to remove any couriers they can’t use, and/or disable RM. Leaving aside Rm, the system means that buyer buys the item, the item cost is held pending being paid to the seller and Vinted take the postage element and send seller a pre paid label.

Technically, although it does occasionally go very wrong, as long as seller sends item and it tracks as sent that’s it, Vinted take over and refund the buyer if item is lost.

HI soolin, in this scenario does the seller not receive their sale money and just lose the item?  As payment is dependant on the buyer receiving their item.  Tx

If item is deemed lost then buyer gets a full refund and the money for the item is released to the seller as though it was a successful sale. Vinted take the hit on both the item cost and postage cost. As I mentioned earlier, Royal Mail on Vinted is different as then seller receives a set price for postage and is responsible for posting it themselves and doesn’t get paid if it is lost, and has to reclaim from the RM as usual.

On Vinted they offer Evri, Yodel, DPD, Inpost locker to locker, Inpost locker to home  and Royal Mail which is not integrated. I'm sure there's another one as well which I can't think of, these also change depending on reliability and what is available in your area.

Sellers are able to disable any that they can't or don't want to use, and buyers are offered the choice of the ones each seller offers with slightly differing prices.

I bought an item where the seller had paid postage via ebay, the label was for 1kg and he paid extra at the post office to take it to 5kg.

Item was faulty so I had to return it. Problem was the auto return label from ebay was also 1kg, and even with the lightest box I could find the whole package was 5.1kg. So the seller's original package must have been over 5kg too, and RM didn't notice.

After complaining to ebay they refunded me and said I didn't have to return the item.

I’ve been looking at the Simple Delivery FAQ’s, and the only option is Evri (unfortunately for me). Whilst I have a great local Evri delivery person, I’ve had parcels go missing when sending from my local parcel shops, so I’ll have to opt out and stick with RM Tracked 48.

Once this new system is in place you won't have to worry about Evri's shortcomings as they have taken on the responsibility of sorting problems or refunding as necessary.

Although I do wonder if this could reflect on sellers coming across as unsympathetic and uncaring when they refer buyers to eBay to sort out problems.
