I am having this exact problem. Business policy is now being ignored and the listing tool says "Simple Delivery will override your domestic postage policy. Dispatch time will be set to 3 days."
And is forcing me to use either Evri or Royal Mail, not the company I want to use.

    Crazy.
I can still easily opt out by going into the advanced link as outlined above. The view on my various accounts though is slightly different (business is obviously unchanged) but the option is there.

I have put a couple of items up as simple postage as the small parcel rate on Evri is quite competitive and for cheaper but bulkier items it might help me shift a few things.

Is there any way I can find out what ebay is charging for large letter, letter, small parcel - so I can decide whether to choose simple postage or not?

Do a test listing then ask someone to view the listing from their account?
My guess is that ebay will be charging the buyer the same as you would pay for the same service. Just make sure you have entered the size and weight correctly.

Sorry I meant if I buy postage from Ebay, how much would it cost me.  If I click on simple postage it is showing £2.94.  Is that how much ebay will charge me?  not £3.25 (currently that is what I pay online) or £3.39 (online tracked)

On the ones I have opted to use simple postage on, I've always opted for buyer to pay. For mine it is showing £2.70 for a large letter (so for lighter ones its cheaper to send myself) but my parcels show as something like 'from' £2.78 , so cheaper than I can buy.

The way it works for me is that when a buyer has used simple postage, I just get the item cost and a rpe paid label, so my £8 item is what I showed in my pending, buyer will have paid £8 plus buyer premium plus postage.

Although these prices seem to differ slightly depending on whether Royal Mail, Evri or both are selected according to this

Hopefully the Custom opt-out will remain in place, though I very much doubt it. What I can't get my head around is the packaging expense. Say a small parcel under £100 value on SD is £2.94. The Seller doesn't get that money. Yet, the combined cost of a box, bubble wrap, packing tape and a drive to nearest drop-off point could be 65p. Does the Seller then have to build those expenses into the item price ?

I think I've figured it out.
Underneath the "Postage set-up" it then says "Simple Delivery".. below that "Package size".
    Click "Package size".
Then click "Switch to custom package"
Then back near the top below "Postage set-up" it will now show "Custom postage" or your policy will apply.

    How convoluted.
Thank you, Ive found that now but what a long winded way it is. If like me you are just selling odds and ends, all different, the time spent listing  is going to end up making it not worth the bother.

Yes, that's really always been the case - buyers have never liked over inflated costs for P and P . As a seller I accept that P and P is, as the name suggests 'packing' as well, but I'm sure we all try and keep our costs down by reusing or recycling and I've never thought stuff like 'driving to a PO ' is something that is something that necessarily needs to be added to every sale.

On the business side I can cover a run to a courier or a PO, or arrange home collection as a business expense  . On the private side I wouldn't be looking to get so little for an item that I couldn't cover a few pence to drop a few parcels off- or just arrange a RM collection.  I use a lot of recycled boxes and I buy a £9 roll of bubble wrap every few months plus mailing bags as needed and can keep my postage costs very low.

There is no need to be paying inflated costs at a stationery shop to buy 4 postage bags at a time, or a sheet of bubble wrap for a couple of pounds. Go on ebay and look for larger amounts , I pay around 5p for a tamper proof packing bag.and my last bubble wrap was I think from here, using the coupon code to get it at £7.49 delivered. 500MM x 100M SMALL BUBBLE WRAP CUSHIONING QUALITY BUBBLE 100 METERS LONG ROLL | eBay  (Other sellers are available, I just happened to find this one with a code when I last bought) EDIT- Lots of codes avaialble on this seller, 500 x 100 roll can be bought for as little as £7.13.

Also look at it from the buyers point of view - after all it is buyers we are trying to attract.

Item  from seller A, £10 plus £2.94 SD (seller gets £10 buyer pays around £13.90)
item from seller B £10 plus £4 .50 p and P (seller gets £14.50 but has to pay for postage but buyer has to pay around £15.50).
So to be competitive seller B would need to drop their item price to around £8.40 so still only gets aroubnd the same as if they had used SD.
