I wonder if it has to be only letter sized, not large letter?  But the list did include DVDs which wouldn't (or shouldn't) go as just a letter!
I can still list LLs with custom postage, in fact I’m not even offered SD, but this roll out is so sporadic it’s difficult to know what eBay mean by any of it.
So you can enter postage of say £1.55 for a large letter?
I use business policies even on my private account, so I don’t enter an amount, I just choose which of my postage policies I want to use. I haven’t been able to just enter an amount for a year or two , I can only use business policies. However I can still bypass SD for all my LLs and most of my parcels

Further back on this thread I posted up the eBay clarification about exemptions , not all categories of items sold as a LL will be exempt.

    More fun with eBay.
An item has sold. Got the QR code, but the post office wouldn't accept the parcel - the postage is for Large Letter and the parcel is too wide for that.

I don't know why the postage is Large Letter - I would not have chosen that deliberately (the item is obviously too fat), and it is very hard to choose accidentally. When I look back at the listing, it does not say Large Letter, just 'Standard Tracked'. However the price does match Large Letter when I check it on the Post Office website.

So I walked back home, and managed to get to a human quite quickly on the ebay customer services chat - I just want to pay the extra to upgrade the postage, but apparently I have to buy new postage myself, send the parcel, put the new tracking number into ebay so that my funds will be released. The buyer will get a refund of the unused original postage (even though the item says Dispatched already), and then I have to bill them for the new postage via Paypal...? Sounds very complicated, and unfair on the buyer to have to pay extra postage when they bought something in good faith based on the price advertised.

So I'm thinking I will just pay for the new postage and take the hit :(

UPDATE - because the item is marked as Dispatched on eBay, I can't pull the order through into the Royal Mail Click and Drop either.

Firstly , did you choose the option when listing or is this an item that was switched to SD automatically by ebay? Ebay did say, and I'm desperately looking for a link in the FAQs, that is this is an automatic switch then POs have been told they must take these parcels, and ebay pick up the difference. Even if it is an seller issue then POs must still take anything where it says Marketplace seller' on the label but ebay will contact the seller and if this happens too often seller may be charged the difference.

I would definitely NOT be paying out of my own pocket, and would follow the instructions to cancel the sale, apologising to the buyer that ebay have supplied the wrong size SD label and you can over write it.

This nonsense about billing the buyer for an additional label is appalling advice , it is the usual utter rubbish the CS reps tell you to get you off the line.

This is the closest I can find, which is why I asked whether you chose the size when listing, or whether it was automatically switched over to SD by ebay.

    Simple Delivery | eBay

If you don’t use the parcel size that was recommended when you created your listing, and your item exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, you may be responsible for the extra costs to send your item. This includes the cost difference between the parcel sizes and an administration fee of £1, including VAT.

Thanks Soolin, appreciate you taking the time to reply to my complaints!

I can't think why I would have chosen Large Letter when listing as the parcel was obviously too fat, but I can't rule it out completely as I was listing a few things that day - it was about 3 weeks ago and my memory isn't that good!
I am usually pretty careful and weigh and measure all items, so assume I chose the correct size. I was listing a few items - some I used SD and others I used custom.

Interesting to hear that the CS advice is bad - I've never had to deal with them before so assumed it'd be ok - naive of me.

Thanks again for your help - I've copied your posts so I can refer to it in future if needed!

I'm just annoyed that I can't find the statement about ebay covering the extra if itt's their fault, and also the request to call them if a PO refuses a parcel.

I haven’t listed anything new since SD was introduced and prepping to list some tomorrow adding a new item it’s given me Yodel door to store postage 2-10kg, which while was the last one I used I didn’t expect to see !

I'm sure I posted the announcement that the seller won't be charged if the parcel is overweight if they followed the ebay recommendation.

The roll out is going very very slowly , I’m still able to opt out of SD on most of my items as well.

Do the changes mean I will no longer be able to use Royal Mail stamps for postage and will need to buy postage labels from eBay?

When they mention "opting out" - would opting out mean I can continue using my preferred method (RM stamps)?

I've tried to find info about this but find it all very confusing.

    TIA for any replies.
