@Soolin do you think you are getting preferential listing treatment from ebay? I often wonder about the order things come up. I have been selling quite a lot this week. My items are quite cheap. I tend to get hardly any views and then a sale. Sold a book from 1926 this morning.
Perhaps someone else might want to give it a try. End a batch of listings, then use sell similar, NOT relist to re list everyone (watch for any automatic SD shown and check appropriate weight option is selected. Then see if it generates sales.

I have just ended and sell similar on three items.  Simple Delivery wasn’t an option, only domestic delivery.  My settings for postage were as they were previously.
Were they large letter and under £10? I'm trying to find a pattern here.
Sorry I should have said. No they were all small parcel, and all clothing.

it does look like ebay are nowhere near ready to implement this- as at yesterday I was still not getting SD offered on about half of my newly listed parcel size items or even relisted ones. I haven't listed anything today, I might do later , or maybe I'll just relist something in a parcel size and see if the SD option comes up.

  • Hi, I've been comparing the Ebay Simple Delivery prices for Royal Mail with RM's standard and they are much, much more.  Is it legal for Ebay to charge so much extra, bearing in mind that from 15 April 2025 are making it compulsory for private sellers so we will not have a choice.  Can we report this to someone in authority to investigate?

    Price differences as follows

    Up to 2KG

Simple Delivery: Buyer Pays = £4.27

Simple Delivery: Seller Pays = £4.46

Direct from Royal Mail = £3.39

The next level according to Ebay is 'up to 15kg' and my packages average 8kg which is cheaper so instead of paying £6.65 I'll have to pay £12.35.  A nice profit for Ebay.

I did wonder when Ebay stopped charging commission for private sellers how they'd get their income and now we know. I won't be selling anything again once my stuff already listed has sold.  I just hope that they don't change my existing listings to incorporate their extra charges.  They're already charging the buyer 'Buyer Protection Fee' so my prices have had to be adjusted down to accommodate that.  It's all become such a scam now.

I’m a private seller and occasionally sell expensive guitars (£1.5k >) on EBay. I’ve always used my own courier and paid appropriate insurance.
I wouldn’t use Royal Mail as they don’t provide cover for guitars, and I certainly wouldn’t use Evri for obvious reasons.
Are my Ebaying days over because of Simple Delivery?

We need to wait for the promised announcement about the overweight/expensive exemptions.for clarity.

It is unlikely to be illegal for any site to charge for postage at a rate different to that charged to a general consumer. Other sites already do that without issue.

As for an automatic switch to SD, the announcement said that will be automatic from the 15th April so yes your listings will change. However, the full announcements are still to be made about exemptions for light or overweight items, plus many of us are still not even being offered the chance to opt to list with SD, so I think eBay are wildly optimistic suggesting the 15th as the full switch over date.

Wow you've had an item on ebay for 99 years!
I am selling books that belonged to a friend of my grandparents. She was born in February 1919. The book was given to her in 1933.

Its rather lovely to have known the previous owner and for someone to want her old books. It has rather beautiful illustrations.

Please can I ask where are people seeing this difference between what a buyer pays and what a seller pays?

I'm trying to wrap my head around these changes although I only have 2 active listings. If I go to edit a listing and select Simple Delivery with the 2KG option I then see the same price for the Buyer AND Seller at £4.27. Screenshot here -

Obviously I'm not happy this is more than going direct with Royal Mail but I can't work out where the £4.46 comes from that's been mentioned a few times. Unless eBay have changed something in the last couple of hours?

Just had a further e-mail from EBay on this. This comment on exceptions.

“There’ll be a few exceptions, such as low-priced, bulky items, and local pick-up, which aren’t eligible for Simple Delivery.”

I presume those are three separate exceptions and you don’t have to qualify for all three !

Also mentioned which I don’t recall before

“Positive feedback: From late April, you’ll automatically receive positive feedback for tracked transactions delivered on time, where no feedback has been left within 7 days and no issues are reported, so you get the recognition you deserve”

Not sure about £4.46 but items sold for over £100 and weighing between 1- 2kg are £4.47 Royal Mail only with Simple Delivery option
