I'm glad we pulled out of buying a house with a 32ft lounge and high ceilings. I dread to think what the heating bills are.Make £2026 in 2026

East Midlands.
Ouch! That standing charge would be the killer for me. Currently paying 29.38p on Tracker in Eastern areaI came to the same conclusion. My gas usage is between 7&8000 kWh now, down from about 13,000 due to making the most of Agile to heat the thermal store when it's near free. Planning to ride it out on tracker.1 -
Jan 2026: I am currently on the Loyal Octopus 14 M Fixed March 2025 v4 which is giving me 21.83 p/ kWh and SC of 55.68 / day. Expires on 31 May 2026.
Has anyone gone to the trouble of seeing how this compares with the market at present? Bearing in mind ..
- the devil you (think) you know
- I get Export credits @15 p
- a bit later in the year might be better for considering a switch from fixed to flexible. [The weather may be somewhat predictable, but Putin and Trump ...]
- I am not a great load shifter. NE based Solars yes but EV no
- Average 2780 kWh elec and 7500 kWh gas p.a. Octopus are estimating my annual cost for Elec @ £838 and gas @ £584. Which is usually regarded as "low"
Any guidance gratefully received.

Also depends if you want zero exit fees, which Octopus have on most, although not all of their tariffs. I switch tariffs as soon as a better one comes along, so that's important to me.Not sure how many tariffs with other suppliers, have zero exit fees. But I also like my Octopus mini, correct billing record, and good customer service from Octopus, so I'm not in a hurry to look elsewhere, even if my tariff is slightly higher than some. Although I don't know if it is, as I haven't checked recently.0

I go along with that though conversely zero exit fees is a reason for staying put!
Is there a forum or place where I can get myself educated about the Octopus Mini? Unknown territoryTelegraph Sam

Crikey, it doesn't need an education. If you've got a smart phone with your Octopus account, it communicates with the app and you can see the information easily enough. It's totally intuitive once you've set it up. You just need an electrical socket close by your electricity meter to provide the mini with some power.Make £2026 in 2026
