It's lost its appeal for me - at least for gas - when I spotted this from Ecotricity:

    Unit rate 4.620p kWh
    Standing charge 49.969p per day
Price guaranteed until 12 months fixed term

    East Midlands.

I'd probably be influenced primarily by the comparative elec costs

The electric's staying with Octopus. Only the gas is going to Ecotricity.

You reckon that the elec Loyal 14 month fixed is respectable in today's environment?

That looks decent. 4.7p kWh in Merseyside. SC is a bit high but might still work out will have to run the numbers as I'm quite low use on Gas these days.

Your rate's much better than mine I think. I'm on

23.03p per kWh and 48.01p per day.

Even so, mine's not worth switching because of the 15p export rate.

  • I agree that when you take the (fixed?) export 15 p into account, in addition to the SEG and FIT payments, this is where it gets to smoke and mirrors. If in doubt and if it ain't broke ..

Ouch! That standing charge would be the killer for me. Currently paying 29.38p on Tracker in Eastern area

Fair point. It’s the unit rate that normally matters more to me, because of the 35000 pa usage. I considered Tracker but I also wanted the certainty of what’s currently a decent rate in case things in Europe spark off this winter and spill over into gas prices. Last winter wasn’t great for Tracker and the later versions don’t compensate sufficiently for the risk.
