Very good point, they would very happy indeed if every body kept on paying for it
I agree but to be fair to BT, most other companies would have done the same

BT advertised this free service on TV the other night with that arrogant Top gear (pistol head) presenter, Jeremy Clarkson.

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you

Maybe BT don't like me as it was me who first posted this thread but my bill came in today and they're still charging me for the caller display! I phoned the freephone number on the 1st of July to register for their privacy service - held on till it said I was registered and that as a current subscriber it would be free from now on.

I made a call via BT during July which has been charged on the same bill.

    I'm not happy!

Are you sure you are actually registered for BT Privacy then? The only reason i'm asking is that I too registered for BT Privacy on 1st July but our bill came in on the 7/8 (but dated 6th) and we were still being charged for the next 3months for caller display. I rung them and having checked their system it only registered from 6th therefore after the bill had been sent. He assured me(!) that this mistake would be corrected in the next bill and I would receive a credit from 1st July onwards for caller display.

He couldn't explain why it only showed up on their system on the 6th but he did say he could see that I did request on the 1st July so don't worry about it!?!?

As we already had caller display it was hard to determine if and when we switched over to BT Privacy. If you never had caller display then you should be ok. Have you rung them over it?

I went through all the preamble and it said not to hang up untill it was all finished - I waited till the bitter end. I've contacted BT via their website - I don't want to hold on for ages to talk to someone in India.

As did I but for some unknown reason it took 6 days before it switched me over from chargable caller display to BT Privacy. This is all according to the guy from BT (wasn't india). Even he couldn't explain why it took so long but to save a lot of messing in 3months time, I'm going to check with them Monday (likely to be less busy than of a weekend) and double-check that I'm on the free caller display via BT Privacy.

These days companies tell you whatever you want to hear sometimes!

I was already using caller display and went on line to register for it to be free. I then phoned them and verified that it had been accepted and it had. I asked about the charge that had already been made on my bill for this quarter and they said it would be credited on my next bill.
Dial 0800 800 150 and check it out. You have to press various numbers before you get to a human being but it's worth checking.

Is it just me or is this reply from BT absolute gibberish?

    "Dear Mr **********

Thank you for your e-mail dated 23/7/05 regarding the free caller display.

In response to your e-mail, I would like to inform you that the date of installation of the free caller display as also provided by you in your e-mail is 01/07/05. Moreover, as your monthly bill dated 19/07/05 contains the rental charges for the period starting from 20/06/05 till 19/07/05, therefore the amount £1.48 corresponds for the "chargeable caller-display" service for the first 18 days.

However, let me also assure you that with effect from the next bill due to be generated on 17/08/05, there will be no charges of that nature on any of your future bills.

If you should have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us again via e-mail, or call us at our freefone helpdesk number i.e. 0800 800 150.

    Thank you for contacting BT.

    Yours sincerely,

    Gaurav Pokhriyal

£1.48 plus VAT is a full months sub for these services and 20/6 to 1/7 aint 18 days!
Moreover the bill clearly states the charge is for the period 1 Jul - 31 Jul

I dont subscribe to BT caller display but do have a BT line with my calls diverted using cps. Have just registered for BT privacy at home via the free number and was told that my registration had been succesful. No mention of having to make calls by BT just that caller display would be free. Will pick up my caller display phone on the way home and see if it bursts into life and if BT charge me anything for not sending calls via BT (on my next bill).
