Hi Again - further to my original thread - I 'have it' - after only a few minutes of applying by telephone- great.
    Thanks for this tip.

I just tried ordering on the BT website, but I got the message:

'Current State of customer's line will not allow Select Services to be ordered'

I'm a One.Tel Carrier Pre-Select user, so BT's system must check this before accepting an online order.

You can also sign up for caller display on line at:

    http://bt.com/btprivacy/

It's also possible to review the other select services you have and to modify them.

    Regards,
    Art.

I get this error as well. Just use the freephone number. You can still use BT Privacy even if you use OneTel (or anyone) for your calls (known as CPS) as it says this in their FAQ's (link in an earlier post) so long as you make "some calls".

I have now subscribed using the free phone number. As I said earlier I couldn't get the online order to work.

We already have caller display and I called BT to ask if we can get it free now and they said we could but only if you request it. They are not doing it automatically for current subscribers. I then discovered when you dial the automated number, it lets you know that the service will be free in future.
They also told me of two other websites that could be useful to readers.
One is a site that can help stop those automated silent calls you sometimes get at home. https://www.silentguard.co.uk. Registration is free and it took me less than a minute to do it - you just put in your home number.

Thanks for that. I just naturally thought for security/confirmation reasons you would need to ring from the landline concerned so that BT could get your landline number from the CLI (Caller Line Identity).

The funny thing is, the "BT Privacy" line will tell you exactly who has and who hasn't got caller ID. All you have to do is type in the number as a test. So much for privacy! :D
