Here's a thought (cheapskate that I am :) ) Does it have to be a chargeable call? Would a call to an 0800 no. do for instance? Or perhaps a call to an engaged no. or even to an unanswered call?

Are you saying that you think BT are actually going to check?

    Good grief.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

I would imagine a nice little computer program could do all the checking for them, if they wished. Just flag up all users subscribed to Privacy at Home and no call charges against their account...hey presto:eek:

I asked BT to disconnect my caller display 3 years ago .It still works and I havent paid a penny since .I opted for on line billing last year and on my first bill it said " free caller display " . I dont think there is any reason to worry about a bill for not using BT

This is correct, just the one call per quarter.

We are with TalkTalk, though the odd call we do place via BT, even if we didn't place any calls back with BT, to get caller display free I would be happy to make one call at the evening or weekend for 5.5p instead of paying £5.25.

How do you make calls with BT when you're with TalkTalk? Is there a prefix?

If you are a CPS user (TalkTalk, OneTel, Tele2 etc) to route calls back to BT you need to use the prefix 1280.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)

What about if you use 18866/1899 through an Orchid dialler?

I'm guessing but probably you have to dial 121 to bypass the Orchid and then 1280 to hop back onto BT from your CPS.

Just to clarify absolutely: It is definately 1 call per quarter, and not 1 call per billing period? (The reason I ask is that I am billed monthly with BT, therefore at least 1, maybe 2 of my bills will be just line rental).

Nicholas - did you get an answer to this? I am also on monthly billing and have two lines at home. I usually use 18866/1899 for my calls so having registered for Privacy I'll now have to make a call on each line via BT in order to get caller display free. I just don't know whether I have to do this once a month (because of my monthly billing) or once a quarter.

Also, does anyone know if there's a minimum price the call has to be or will any single chargeable call do?

i haven't looked through every post to see if this info has been posted elsewhere, so i'll post it:

we have talk talk so we asked bt for clarification on their "some calls" on the bt network clause. They said you only need to make one 5p call per through bt per quarter to qualify.

I don't know if this has been confirmed?
