Long and weird. Wife and I sent our applications toward the end of Oct. They both came back the next week because neither of us had filled out the 'nominated account' bit (weirdly on the right of the form, even though it's nowt to do with joint accounts so pay attention to that).Bobblehat said:
Thanks, so the Freepost route is the sensible way if you have to send a cheque anyway!WillPS said:
Emailed application form is acceptable, but it must be of a scan with a wet signature so you'll need a hard copy either way.Bobblehat said:

Surely better to submit a postal application, as they will accept one. Even if the travel isn't costing money, the time taken must be worth more than a stamp.surreysaver said:
I'll have to pop up to Scotland sometime as their one hasn't appeared online
The relationship centre account is the same as the postal one, so you can't double up by going up to Scotland.
Am I right in thinking you can even scan the application form (available online) and your POI docs and email the application (if you are not worried about email security)? Can you also pay the first deposit by FP or does it have to be a cheque only before they open the account?
Initial deposit must be by cheque in the account holder's name (which you can send in by Freepost if you want to keep docs in the post to a minimum).
What are the timescales like from the day of posting off the application to the date the account has the cheque registered? I am wondering whether to apply later this month (with the added variability of Christmas) or wait until January and try to time it for a late Jan deposit followed by an early Feb deposit.
We then sent again early in November. Mine came back with a passbook about a week later but wife ended up chasing hers and it finally arrived right at the end of the month.
Getting online accounts sorted also takes a week or so for post to arrive with activation details.
Sooner is better if you're concerned about getting a deposit in before NY.2 -
I will try to remember to let you know as I posted my application form, cheque and copies of documents a week ago (26th Nov) and the cheque has not been cashed yet ...Bobblehat said:

...and if you could write that out in Java (or at least pseudocode) just to help PrinBS implement the fix a bit quicker that'd be kind...Oh dear. Can you talk us through how you entered the instructions which led to this. Did your instructions generate a "sent" secure message? Where did you instruct the funds coming out at maturity to go to (internal or external account?)4 -

I just rang them, the nice lady was apologetic for the inconvenience & following is the gist.
This should save many their time & also not clog the Monmouth lines
1. They are aware of the issue. It is building society wide problem, their IT is looking into it. They do not have a time line for resolution, but they are trying to get it done today.
2. The money isnt sent to source account, its sat in their (Monmouth) account
3. There wont be any interest loss, once resolved, the interest will be backdated to 1 Dec if they received money on 1 Dec.
4. If they resolve it today before EOD, it wont be reflected in the app/online, until tomorrow.31 -
yes - website not updated yet, but reversals showing in the app - hoping it's just an app bug... await the result of the above call with interest.ChewyyBacca said:

Yes, I have too. Just checked after I saw your message. My Issue 8 has gone really awol....I paid in £500 which has been credited in 2 payments as £375 & £125 and then -£125 was reversed - making a total payment of £375 for December?! My November payment of £500 has also been changed in my Issue 8 from a single £500 payment to 2 payments of £450 & £50, respectively? As for the Branch exclusive & App exclusive both payments were received into the RSs for December and then reversed. No monies (£1625) have been returned into the sending account, but they might show in the respective RSs , be returned tomorrow, or someones gone Christmas shopping!

I thought it was very odd when the December payments weren't showing early this morning........I know Skipton had a brief outage of 30 minutes in the early hours today and they were working to get their system up and running again - Wondering if other systems also went down HSBC etcEdit: I see someone has posted that they've phone Monmouth and they're having IT issues.--**MONEYFACTS**-- FULL List of Money Comparison Products + News / Guides--Personal MSE 2026 Money Saving Challenges:# Regular Savers 2026- New 9/12 - Total: 31 (6)# No.2 Save 1p A Day Challenge 2026 £355.02 / £667.95 (6)# No.4 Save £12k in 2026 - £8492.37 / £12,000 (6)# £10-a-Day Challenge 2026 - £710.56 / £1825 (6)# No.8 Sealed Pot Challenge 19 (22/10) 426 / £400 (6)# No.27 - Top Up EP 2 £1255 / £2880 (6).# Decluttering Challenge (6)# No.4 £2 Savers Club 2026 - Completed# No.5 Fiver Friday Challenge 2026 - Completed# Make £2026 in 2026 - Completed# Spectos Mailagent - ReadyMotto: 'SAVE before you spend on Non-essentials'2
