The Old Regular Savers Discussion Thread 28/12/24-29/1/26

Principality
Anybody who thinks their staff are not aware of the bug/quirk at maturity and this thread in general is deluded. I happened to go for a job interview at a building society head office (not Principality, but another semi-regular name in this thread) earlier this year and I saw the MSE Forum header twice in my 2 hrs there, most of which was spent being interviewed, not looking at other people's screens!
I also previously worked for a bank, again a name which appears in this thread fairly regularly and I know for a fact this thread was shared with regards to a bug they had.
If Principality wanted to sort this they'd have had 2 years now to do it one way or another - even potentially just by excluding this account from the maturity options and forcing a new application. That's not to say they're definitely entirely cool with it but they're clearly not MHBS-level livid either.
Any suggestion an end of term overfund might "ruin it for everyone" is superstition at best.16 -
After the Newcastle Monument went NLA, someone posted a link on here to the online application which was still live.
My wife (existing online customer) completed the application on 21/10 and got email acknowledgment and a ref number but nothing else so I assumed her application was unsuccessful due to it being NLA.
She logged in yesterday and was surprised to see her Monument account sitting there with zero balance since 21/10. There was also a secure message dated 21/10 confirming her account has been opened and details on how to fund it. It also says her account will be closed if not funded within 14 days.
She sent over £5 initial payment and got the usual investment confirmation email this morning. Now deciding whether to top it up with £495. T&Cs seems to suggest you can miss payments.

You can miss payments.Newcastle BS make a donation to local charity if you open the account, deposit £100 and keep it there for 6 months. Although 5.5% is not spectacular at the monent, I would encourage anyone with a Newcastle Monument account to at least make the balance £100 for 6 months.2 -
Managed to log in but it's acting strange.Bridlington1 said:
It's not letting me log on either, it says it's down for scheduled maintenance:topyam said:Anybody else struggling to get into the Progressive site?
It was due to be unavailable from 6:30am this morning according to the banner on their website so it seems to've gone down earlier than planned:
After entering whatsapp code, got error message page so closed window. Opened website again and I am already logged in.0 -

Newcastle Monument RS is still available, just branch only or by a (new) QR code that has not been leaked.3 -
Treating it as an instant access account so 5.5% is not too bad.kermchem said:Speculator said:After the Newcastle Monument went NLA, someone posted a link on here to the online application which was still live.

Further to the Progressive messages, is anybody experiencing issues with Hanley Economic's online portal today? I made my payment yesterday but went to log in to check it had arrived this morning and I'm getting some weird messages, not sure if it's specific to me or a wider issue as they don't seem to have anyhting on their website about it.
(Made the mistake of sending a faster payment again this month instead of making a debit card payment which I understand from earlier conversations maximises the interest one earns...)
Edit: I've been able to log in using the app which I forgot existed, so it may be an web-only problem.

Can't remember but it might be one of those accounts that you can pay in any amount, but only receive interest on the £200. Seem to remember a Virgin account operating that way.mhoc said:
Good grief - just checked and I have been paying in £250 since last June and now £300 .... with no sanctions ...Middle_of_the_Road said:
Instead of £200 I think you'll find 🙂mhoc said:Santander regular saver - totally by mistake I transferred £300 from my Santander current into the regular saver instead of £250 today - what is my punishment going to be?
Three more letters from Principality arrived while we were away over the weekend regarding maturities on December 5th - the never ending dilemma regarding another 6 month issue 4 or a Christmas 12 month ....
Edit;
If you don’t fund the account from your Santander current account or if you deposit more than £200 in any month, Santander reserve the right to change your account into an Everyday Saver2 -
Well, that's the Newcastle and Manchester 6.5% and the Market Harborough 5.8% branch only Regular Savers successfully open, so a Merry Christmas to me (no QR codes this time I'm afraid)!
Does anyone know whether the Hanley branch only 6.5 % is viewable online? I might only bother with that one if I can see the money going in...
I'll have to pop up to Scotland sometime as their one hasn't appeared onlineI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?2 -
Appears immediately after opening in app and online.surreysaver said:
