Well, I'm not sure I could agree more heartily with you.
and the industrialisation of our countryside, which you  urban folk don't pay any heed to.
I live very rurally, and I don't have the first clue what you're on about with that.

Your not in Scotland though are you.  Wind turbines over 250m tall, pylons over 67m tall marching across the flow country, peat bogs and mountains (you know the places that suck up the CO2 you are worried about, the gas that gives this planet life and greens the world), huge BESS with an energy capacity of over 1,000MWh, giant substations.  These are all being built to send the energy South so you don't have to see them.

Coal used to be the main fossil fuel. It's now a trivial niche fuel.
That’s simply untrue. Coal will be a bigger source of power than renewables for many years to come. China relies on it for their economic growth.

Peat bogs aren't really a  CO2 sink any more

Go on then explain your reasoning.

Peatlands store vast amounts of carbon—twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests.

The only time they become emitters is they are messed with, you know when they start planting turbines.

    Ah, I'm with you now.

And, yes, they are a scary thing locally for the luddites.

    As for CO2...

27% now, globally, down to 17% in 2050?

Meanwhile, the UK is now on 0% for electricity generation. As recently as 1990, 80% of the UK's 100+ million tonnes of annual coal use was in power stations.

Right now, 70% of our electricity is renewable and 87% carbon neutral.
The average for the first half of 2024 was just over 50% renewable electricity generation, with over 40% of the country's total energy being renewable.

Fossil electricity generation was down to a third averaged over the whole of 2023.
