    Stop/start on a mild hybrid 3litre diesel.
    Over 65mpg - problem solved.

That Volvo digger could be a good machine and you appear to know how machines work in construction unlike a ex driver like myself so maybe you could explain how you charge machines up on sites without any power which most don't have, yes you could change power packs but your going to need a lot of power charging maybe 10 at a time.  Even if you had power to charge while on a break I used to start at 7am have 15 minutes around 9 and then 30 minutes at 1 and another 15 in the afternoon would that be enough

Without the diesel and oil engines we wouldn't have homes, transport, food, heating and many other things

If you'd bothered to read the linked site, you'd have seen about the 10ft container "power unit" that Volvo also supply, with 50% more battery capacity than the digger. 7t weight, so three of them can be delivered to site on a single artic.

It looks very expensive compared to normal site equipment. I'm sure it's possible to electrify anything and everything in the world today. But just because it can be done and Volvo seem to have done it, it doesn't mean it makes sense from an affofdability, economic or business sense. Surely the business case for moving to EV is far more than just having the technology to demonstrate it can be done.....and that's exactly where we are with Bevs & heat pumps, no incentives, fewer buyers.

Except for the minor detail that fossil fuels aren't paying their true environmental cost.

You're right - mitigating climate change requires investment. But nowhere NEAR as much as dealing with the consequences if we don't.

The world hasn't moved forwards far enough, fast enough yet or cheap enough (never mind safely enough).  EVs only sell because the government are bribing businesses with subsidies.  They didn't do that with motor vehicles 120 years ago.

Wait until the 25% tariff is added to the price of that Chinese built digger.

A century ago most people stayed in the local area and never travelled I don't want to go back to that time
Sixty years ago people travelled using diesel trains, houses were and roads were built using diesel power food was grown using diesel tractors
The world moves forward and electric vehicles aren't the answer yet
