I guess you're right without oil and other fossil fuels we'd be back living like cavemen

    Clearly a ridiculous statement.

Our modern civilisation has been built on the back of fossil fuels, true, but that doesn't mean that it has to STAY built on them.

Coal used to be the main fossil fuel. It's now a trivial niche fuel. Nobody would seriously entertain rolling the clock back.

We have viable alternatives to oil for almost all uses. Why is it somehow unthinkable to think they can be more widely adopted?

Likewise gas - both natural and oil-distillation-byproduct.

    What's the downside? Cleaner air?

As has been commented on earlier you are thinking that all these households can always park outside their homes with a neighbour parked next to them where in real life you might not park outside your house for days
So where do they park their car now?
It is not a case of just using one charger..

Think logically & you will find a way round a problem 🤷‍♀️

This is the biggest part of peoples issues. They want it all on their terms.

Car use is one of the biggest causes of pollution.
EV's are not about stopping the use of oil to make products. They are about reducing pollution.👍

So if they’re already used to not necessarily being parked outside their home, they won’t mind finding a nearby space with a charger. I’ve got on-street chargers near me, it would hardly be a big deal for me to use them whenever I needed to charge at “home”.

Time this thread was put to bed.  The zealots are out in force.

I won't be getting an EV, my wife may get one at some point after 2030, but I'm waiting on the million mile battery (it's out there), double the energy density and battery pack component prices drop to below $50/MW (note this is not the price of the finished battery)  Batteries produced in Europe are over 40% and those made in the USA over 30% more expensive than China.

Just wait a few years and you might get to buy an EV that is cheap enough and good enough to match ICE cars.

Meanwhile I'll carry on taking the government to task in their mad run to Net Zero and the industrialisation of our countryside, which you  urban folk don't pay any heed to.

I've always thought that nearly everything we have is made from oil either directly or as a by product so if we stop using oil to power vehicles why will the producers keep supplying it

If that happens which I doubt you'd need 1 for each house without off street parking so who pays
Average motorist drives 7400 miles = needs to charge their EV no more than once every ten days.  32% of households with a car don’t have a drive so 14 million cars.  Just 10% of the 7.2 million street lamps in the UK fitted with 2 sockets on each would be more than enough.
The argument the average motorist only does 7,400 miles a year also works against having an EV.  The cost of the fuel for such low mileage is still worth it for the benefits and convenience when compared to perceived downsides of an EV.

So are the other side. Who seem to dig up every reason they can. Like where will I park if it's taken outside my house????

If you have a home charger I would think it's important to be able to park outside your home rather than in another street
