Little update, Last night I did a bit of hocus pocus with the budget and expected CC bill at eom. I have managed to get to a point where if I follow the plan and succeed, I will not only pay off the CC at the end of the month but I will also make an OP for £205. It is still Ifs and maybes and again it depends on what my salary take home looks like at the eom, I have an idea, and in theory it should be more due to having not worked the last few months (tax break). I have rebudgeted the costs for the month having got it wrong for the first week, £50 on Groceries is manageable and I seem to be able to stick to it, so far so good, however fuel as I mentioned was less then expected it was £20 for one week, I had allowed £30per week, so now instead as it often goes over I have changed the fuel element to £50 every two weeks, I would expect to get some snacks with the left over money as a reward for sticking to the plan- if there is any surplus money which sometimes there might not be?
I am up to 9/19 No spend days, and CC is £1268.45 (once the watch refund appears) and is expected to reach £1418.45 by eom. I have taken note of what @MFWannabe has said and I have decided to pay just the balance of the Bill very soon, leaving Circa £300 to pay next Month and leaving £350 in my account for a longer period of time, so in effect the credit card will be paid in installments but without any interest added, all on time. But they give you a wide period of time to pay it. So I will have a security net a little bit longer. (I hope that makes sense). And that means I would have worked a longer period of time, before all gets paid. Making furture money safer. However to do this I will need to borrow just until the end of the month the money to pay the CC bill, I have some and I need to borrow £700 from the bank of Mum and Dad. With promise of returning the money at the end of the month when paid.
This will allow me to pay on time and not be charged any interest which I had not factored, and it will mean the CC will reduce but not diminish completely. However it will be a much healthier balance, as I have not spent heavily these last few weeks which is something.
Anyhow I best go and do my final chore of the day - the washing up!

Today I was supposed to take MD out, but with my back the icey weather we decided not to, I did do two lots of grocery shopping for her, which she was pleased about, so she is set for the week ahead. I also took myself for icecream...a bit crazy I know, however I didn't get to enjoy as the toilets were not functioning due to icey conditions and the whole time I was out I was desperate to go! well I got back without any unfortunate situations at least! 🤣🍀🤣🍀🤣.
I have done some more jiggory pokery and I have decided todays low spend is all within budget therefore I am not going to add a spend day and I will add a No spend day taking me to 10/19 - wowser, I feel that is quite good going for the 11th Jan! I am proud of keeping it all in alignment, there is wiggle room but not a lot, so I could treat myself again next weekend, if I so choose, but not excessively - I could instead save the money and get that bag I wanted - which I do have enough money for, but I will wait and see.
Below is the new Budget, planned income and expenditure:-
I am expecting my first wage to be circa £1655 it could be a bit more then this but I will wait and see. I have £700 payment to MD returning the money I borrowed today. UC is a partial as I received some wages from a small job that I did. And the best bit not only is my credit card seriously tackled, but also I will hope to make my first OP, I am still on track, payday is last working day which is 31st...can't wait! My credit card will probably cut out on 19th of the month, which means that I will have £235.84 to pay roughly speaking, out of £355.08 - however I would have worked quite a bit more by this point so would feel on safer ground I hope.
CC I didn't realise but I have a DD set up for the minimum payment so that will come off also, CC is lower but I won't update signature until the money borrowed for it is paid back.

I have just looked at the year ahead, if I keep my spends small and all on budget I could accumulate £4K by the end of the year, however if I get a lodger I could double this, I am a bit unsure about having a lodger however I feel that it would be quite good to keep the ad bearing in mind above calculations. I will wait for the right fit before accepting anyone, if there is such a thing, anyone it could take a while, which is fine it will allow me to get use to working in the new role, it might be better actually to take the ad down as I love getting home at the moment, if I was to have a lodger I probably wouldn't, Actually I think that is enough for me...I will take the ad down now. I know I like getting back to an empty flat a lot, I like the peace and quiet. Yes I will take the ad down now....Done. I know it takes a long time to save the money, but I feel so much better coming back to an empty flat. And 4K is a lot more then I have now, so something to be proud of and have protection over me plus I will be OP - ing £205 PM the year which is £2255 not including Jan, as I haven't paid in Jan. Altogether that is £6K.
Now thinking about it I need to get a dust protecting sheet on the bed now since it is not going to be used I will wait until Feb or prolific payout before getting it. But I can look now...I have seen one I want for £5.24 plus P&P (unsure what that is) - I have just checked p&p is free...wow that is good and helpful - I am pleased with that price, not overly extortionate!
I will now update the signature to show the new change of amount to save for for the year, £4000 EF, £2255 OP, This is if I have a permanent job by the end of the year, lets just hope I do and work hard for that result.

There's a lot to be said for having some peace and quiet when you get home from work and if having a lodger would affect you mentally, you don't need to deal with that worry after a hard day xMortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

Okay today I have acted like I normally do almost, I spent a little wildy! I made a purchase this morning which spiralled in to 4 seperate spends, definetely a spendy day! I now can't spend until then end of the month and I want to hope and prey that my watch refund comes in on time, that would be happy news! So First thing I need to do is meter reads and therefore I needed a key for the gas meter I normally have this but I appear to have lost it, therefore I bought this at the same time I purchased nail clippers (needed) and birthdays presents for SFD which is around the corner. All came to £65. Then I went out with MD and we found a heavily discounted ornament which we both liked and there were two - one each, this cost me £33, then I decided that I didn't fancy anything I bought food wise in the fridge and couldn't be bothered to cook so ordered take out £25, then I decided that the ornamenets needed spherical candles for decorational and for use these cost £48 my Credit card is now over what it should be for next month, not by masses and I believe it will cross over before it gets any higher, but I need not to spend this week, really need not to spend again now. I feel a bit of a fool I was doing so very well, equally I am pleased with the ornament, I'll take a piccie for you to review!! and I wanted to get SFD a pressie.
I'll take another picture next week when I have the candles in place. I bought 6 candles, I don't know if MD wants the other three, I was thinking of her, she may or may not pay me for them, so I could get that money back, if not I'll have spares, which is also good. They don't go off and good to have light if the leccy went off.
I had done well up until now and or I swerved a massive spend last week, but it is only 12th Jan, I need to reign it in again, if I am to save any money I can get away with so much but this hit might of cost me the full OP that I wanted to make. Time will reveal - It would be good if I knew what I was being paid every month, hey ho that is the way it goes.
Do you like my choice of ornament, I really like it, it will look even better with the candles. I can't wait until I see it all together.

Hi, No spend day today so I am up to 11/19 - I am pleased at this. After yesterdays spend, I have asked MD if she wants the ornament as I have had second thoughts and she said she is going to give it to my sister as a present some time, so I will receive the money plus I will receive the money for some of the candles, I am going to return the other three as they are now unwanted. So I have recalculated this on the credit card and when factoring in other partial refund of the watch (will get the other later) I should get this in time as it was done last week - I hope?
As you can see The credit card could be around £420 and the left over money £400.08, therefore I will need to make the difference up. However this is depending on what I get paid, it could be more or less I am unsure, therefore MD said I could reduce the amount I give back, so I can pay the rest later, but I would rather pay this off ideally and have enough to pay future credit card (420.03). Although I went a bit wild there for a bit, having a monthly credit card bill hit £420.03 is momentus as it normally exceeds this. So I don't feel too upset, however there is much work to be done and although I am nearing the cut off for the credit card and will have a free reign again, I won't have free reign again, if I am to stick to my plan and get the credit card to budget which will be £400 per month...£20.03 over is a win and I may yet get it below. There are some more days so perhaps I shouldn't be celebrating the months achivements just yet. But I am thrilled at the balance and the possibililities that this new me may open up to a world of savvyness and saving, and reaching goals. Yippee!!1 -
I am a little like you and like something but then change my mind about it. So I try now to walk away, think about it, and if I still like the idea of it then go back and buy it. Also I think if there is say only one left and I walk away I think well if it's meant for me it will be there when I get back. I rarely regret anything that's not there when I go back and if I absolutely love it I buy it there and then if I have the money. It helps with most impulse purchases though.
