Eeeek this is scary starting this thread and I'm not quite sure how to do it Off to find the sticky thingy ....
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 1st January 2008. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
First of all I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!!!!!!
I feel a bit of a fraud starting this off as I'm not a regular contributor, although I do often read the thread. I also read many of the other threads on OS and have picked up loads of tips along the way, so thank you to everybody for that.
I really need to get my !!! in gear this year and get more organised as I often sit here reading others' achievements and think "I could do that" if only I could actually get myself motivated and actually do it instead of read about it
I know I'm not alone in personal struggles as many of you have had difficulties to contend with recently, so here's hoping 2008 will be far more productive for us all and my heart goes out to all who are struggling, for whatever reason, at the moment :A

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! :j Hiya, Mrs Mcawber, nice to see you back on the daily, I was wondering where you were.:hello:
Hope 2008 brings health, wealth and happiness to us all.
My New Year started with a nice early night as I'm still full of cold and feeling thick headed. However I've been awake since about 5 and planning my day. Firstly I have to clean out the fridges and assess what's in there - I know there are lots of parsnips left over so am going to make curried parsnip soup for lunch, yum. I need to meal plan for the next week, will have to go to the supermarket tomorrow for fresh fruit and veggies etc and I'm out of eggs completely but will try and keep the bill down to a minimum - OH and I worked out our finances yesterday (and wished we hadn't looked  ) so January is a belt tightening exercise.
This year's plans include finding a new job for me, bleah, so I'm in the middle of creating a new working wardrobe in anticipation, I have loads and loads of fabrics to choose from and have managed to sort out at least six or seven toning pieces to make up a 'capsule' wardrobe so must get on with it. Not sure whether this counts as moneysaving or not since I spent mega pounds on buying the fabric in the first place but I suppose it does keep my sticky little fingers out of Next, M & S etc.
Going to make some of Twink's hobnobs today for lunch boxes and treats next week as I'm not going to buy any of those ready made things any more, hoping to lose some weight this year too although not sure the hobnobs will help
Have a great NYD everyone. Hope there aren't too many sore heads about this morning!

Good Morning everyone and Happy New Year!
Last year we concentrated on getting our overdraft & credit cards paid off and we finally had a new central heating system installed (paying £50 p/m on a 0% loan thanks to this website). I've learnt loads of ways to save money, thanks to this board in particular...what will 2008 hold for us?
We need to get our damp sorted and fix some loose ridge tiles so we are already saving hard.
Anyway...HAPPY NEW YEAR to all you wonderful people!0 -
Have a very happy new year everyone! I hope 2008 will be great for all of you.
Thanks to all of you 2007 was the year I got back in control of my finances and DID change how I live. I'm not completely clear of debt yet - and still have a few things to sort out, but I no longer ignore the mail and worry every time I answer the phone. It is so liberating! I've also managed to get a bit of work done on the house, the state of which was really bringing me down. A good year.
I'm hoping 2008 will see me actually start saving a bit - and getting better at OS!
Have a lovely day!

Good morning and a Happy New Year everyone
Another non regular poster here but I lurk around OS most days ... It keeps my motivation going and there is always something new to learn.
2007 saw us continuing to develop our OS life and we have finished the year with a well stocked freezer and store cupboard (no ready meals, except the one's we've made!). We also paid off a couple of loans and pay off the credit card balance every month. :j
2008: We are aiming to pay off the car loan. Instead of part exchanging for a new one we are going to keep it for as long as economically possible. We are going to have a budget for spares and repairs. It will be much cheaper than paying for a new one and ensures we get better value from the one we have. We live in the country so public transport is not an option.
OS living has become very much part of our lives now, so this will continue in 2008.
Have a lovely New Year's Day everyone!Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -

Good morning all,
Just a quick post from me this morning as I’m heading out to work, but I wanted to come on and wish everyone a very
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We had a quiet one but it was still a late night so my plans for today are to work and then come home and grab an hour’s sleep before having some friends around this afternoon. Mr Pink has been left with a list of things to do…obvious things like clean out the fire place, but unless it’s written down he’ll forget. Chances are he’ll bin the list and hop back into bed as soon as I reverse out of the driveway. I know I would if I was in his position.
Ok, better get on with it…I hope you all have a lovely new years day.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
I hope 2008 is a good year for you all. I want to improve on the start I've made on my OS life, improve my finances, lose some weight, and stay healthy.
We had a quiet night in last night, watched a film and had our own 2 person party (ds was fast asleep in bed and slept right through all the fireworks).
Take care all of you.0 -
Good Morning All
Happy New Year to you all.
2007 wasnt the best year for us so here's hoping 2008 is better, I too will be practising a much more os lifestyle.
Also hoping to get oh's health sorted asap, he has some sort of kidney problem but we should get a consultants appointment in Jan, he is on medication now to stop the kidney stones but it has some nasty side effects.
No cooking for me today, we are off to the inlaws for dinner, were invited for tea as well but we have declined - I couldnt possibly spend 8 hours there. Instead we will be coming home chilling with the tv or possibly the wii.
Have no ironing :j which is a good start to the New Year and the house is clean and tidy so this morning before we go I will finish the new Patricia Cornwell book I got for Christmas.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing.
