£40k to blow on a car - please help!

I'm not much younger than you bartsimpson so i can understand you wanting a nice car, at the end of the day if you want to spend £40k on a car go for it.
Out of the cars you listed I'd have to say the RS4, good looking, fast, great image and it's an Audi which pretty much guarantees reliability!I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!0 -
Aah but if you want a really good car and have oodles of cash to spend - put yourself on the waiting list for a hand-built Morgan. Why not look at a tart cart such as a Lotus Elise too?
Even better, give me the money and I'll build you a kit car - I have a 3-wheel JZR trike that looks like an old 1920's Morgan (only two seats, very little luggage space) but it is a fun drive (no windscreen, no wipers, just open top and loud exhausts).0 -
Gee, this thread just strikes me as people being jealous and bitter. So what if someone has £40K to "blow", it's his to blow. You don't know his circumstances and it doesn't mean that he is taking the p!ss does it. We all have different budgets for things and different means of paying for them. I too have a large lump to blow, just happens that is my bosses money and not mine! This might be Money Saving Expert but it doesn't mean we are all living frugally and penny pinching, for me its more about finding the best deals.
I am with the OP on the Fords are boring. Practical and cheap to run, yes, but incredibly boring with no character whatsoever and if you are really into cars its unlikely that you would opt for one unless it's an ST or an RS.
Q7's are great, love them but I don't think you would get one for £40k. I personally would get an XC90 but the OP doesn't want an "oldies" car.
If you do a lot of miles, stay away from a lease. If you go over the mileage allowed they sting you for it big time.0 -

I agree, and whatever you think, if you don't have the money why not simply indulge for a moment and dream. Ok the real world of having to pay the council tax, leccy and gas, and having £5 left for the month from your wage might well be the reality - but no reason to not dream for a second or two - and treat this as a what is your dream car tye of question
This is from someone who is probably poorer than any one of you0 -
I'd probably go with the Audi but Saab are worth a look as well. mabe a 95 Estate 2.3 260 PS Aero. Only £30k as well. Could probably add a few options like built in Sat Nav Pack which takes it to £33,000 and maybe some other options if needs be.
260 PS is probably less than you're used to but worth a test drive imo.matched betting: £879.63

(Actually, one is an E34 and the other an E39, so they have very different characters. We're about to move house to one with a lot less garaging, so the E34 will probably have to go, sadly).Philip0 -
The first thing that came to mind when I read the requirements was, "Penis extension!"0

Whether the guy is genuine or not, i think a post about blowing £40k is quite tactless on site where lots of people are in debt and probably struggling more than normal after Christmas
and before you say it - No i am not jealous in the least all i want in a car is something reliable to get from A to B that you can park anywhere without worrying that it will get stolen[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

I bet you say that, but I am guessing you will be one of these people who will not look twice (or even once) at a car below £600. Double standards.... There are loads of great cars available under £600 - they all get you from A to B and are on the whole unlikely to be stolen.0 -

As was mentioned earlier in this very thread (in response to my post), this is a PUBLIC forum. People can ask anything they like. There are a lot of people here in debt but I am sure there are also some very high earners too. either way, they have one thing in common, money saving!! If this guys has worked hard to be able to afford a £40k car, good for him. All he wanted was some advice on what to buy ... and I'd like to think that some of the negative posts on this thread havent put him off the site altogether because in general, people using this forum are very friendly and helpful. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
