I need a car and I have around £40k to spend (though £30k would be better!). I bought a sports car recently but my circumstances have changed so now i need something bigger and more practical - what should I get??
Here's my requirements:
- must really be an estate or 4x4, anything else too small really
- im fairly young (27) so i want a car with a young image (ie not a volvo, skoda, people carrier etc)
- must have lots of gadgets and speed
- must be as fun as my current merc sports coupe. im looking for something prestigious
- must not be too big (eg range rover) so the missus is happy driving it!
What i've seen so far:
- Posche cayenne
- Audi RS4 estate
- BMW X3
But all these have their pros and cons, is there anything else???
Please help, thanks!!

A very, very late entry in the "biggest bullsh1t post of 2007".
It's got the potential to win, I have to say............I hate school holidays, the kids have w-a-y-y-y too much free time on their hands. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

The Porsche, Audi and X3 will depreciate terribly in the current market.
The Porsche in particular is notorious for its horrendous loss in value. The BMW will suffer as they and their dealers continue to offer bigger and bigger discounts. The X3 is also starting to date. The Audi will also suffer.
Why spend £40k or even £30 for a brand and to lose it in depreciation ?
Try a Ford S-Max. If you want performance it comes with the 2.5 engine from the Focus ST. It has 7 seats without looking like a people carrier. There are lots of accessories if you want a sporting look. It is a better drive than any of the cars previously listed. They come highly speced as standard.0 -

Jaguars new car got a good report from Top Gear, when we change our 5 series later in the year we will be looking at Jags, the image seems to have changed from the dowdy cars of yesteryear to a more cutting edge car.0

Save your self a lot of cash and buy an audi RS2 - a proper cult car that will not lose you anywhere near as much as you'd lose on one of the cars you have already mentioned.0

Blimey...if I had 40k to spend on a car I would have to live in it!
I think your post has been deemed bullsh!t due to the rather large spend you are potentially going to make! Its an insane amount to spend on a car IMO...and this is supposed to be 'money SAVING expert'!0
