Save yourself the huge depreciation hit. Lease whichever car you choose and change it if you get bored with it. Far simpler than buying and selling If you're not happy after a while.

EVERY car has it pro's and cons ! Personally I'd opt for Audi RS or BMW 3/5 series.
  • Blimey...if I had 40k to spend on a car I would have to live in it!

I think your post has been deemed bullsh!t due to the rather large spend you are potentially going to make! Its an insane amount to spend on a car IMO...and this is supposed to be 'money SAVING expert'!

Plus the fact that you don't come onto an uninformed forum such as this (and that isn't intended as derogatory, it's a take on a specialist subject such as a specific car purchase) and ask what to buy.

You go to the 1,001 other *specific* forums out there that have members who will be able to give better advice as to how to spend such a huge sum.

A quick look at the OP's posting history shows posts relating to "Mario And Sonic", "Mighty Boosh Series", "PS3 games" and "Super Nintendo console wanted".

Hence my deduction that he's a youth who's had one too many Red Bull's and has a little too much free time on his hands.
You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

So you try and get a good deal on the car, whatever the price.

We don't all have to drive buckets!

I'd vote for a nice shiny Evo, but I'm biased ;):D

OK, if you're REALLY looking for advice, http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik The Backroom - Discussion, loads of sensible ideas in there, if you post the same Q!

But If you want value for £$£$ 4x4 & sporty ride, then it has to be
    http://www.newmazdacx-7.com/default/en-GB

Otherwise, if the Mrs is OK with it, Range Rover Sport

& not 4X4 but THE best value for £$£$, depreciation, toys, trim & IN YER FACE motoring - Touring model - ( it's really an old Merc underneath, remember!!)

Just a pity they don't offer a burgandy colour choice!

My tip by a second-hand long wheelbase landrover and stash the rest of the cash in the bank.

£40K to spend on a vehicle - you must have more money than sense!

Save your self a lot of cash and buy an audi RS2 - a proper cult car that will not lose you anywhere near as much as you'd lose on one of the cars you have already mentioned.

    They are nice

My mum is 76 and she has a new one. About 5 weeks after she bought it it was stolen one morning and used in bank robbery. Because it was distinctive it was tracked on camera and recovered later the same evening.

She says she feels safe and likes it for shopping
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

The way your post reads, is that those people who spend less than 40k on a car are driving 'buckets'....is that what you are insinuating?

The Porsche, Audi and X3 will depreciate terribly in the current market.

The Porsche in particular is notorious for its horrendous loss in value. The BMW will suffer as they and their dealers continue to offer bigger and bigger discounts. The X3 is also starting to date. The Audi will also suffer.

Why spend £40k or even £30 for a brand and to lose it in depreciation ?

Try a Ford S-Max. If you want performance it comes with the 2.5 engine from the Focus ST. It has 7 seats without looking like a people carrier. There are lots of accessories if you want a sporting look. It is a better drive than any of the cars previously listed. They come highly speced as standard.
and a ford s-max will hold its value. If the guy has this amount of cash to spend the last thing he will be looking at will be people carriers. They are the brown ale of car design and driven by people who have given up.
Go for the Rs4 more smiles per mile than anything else in the price range,
If you are considering a people carrier(and you shouldnt) get the windows tinted that way you wont see people sniggering.
