How much heating have YOU used in October?
Comments
-
We use about 300 kW of gas (£20) during warmer months which is for daily showers and hot water for washing up. During October we have used the central heating on an evening approximately 50% of the time and our consumption has gone up to 525 kW of gas (£31). We have solar panels so use electric heating during day time when needed.1

What_time_is_it said:October always seems to be the "funny" month where there is a big difference between different people in different types of housing and in different parts of the country using very different amounts of energy for heating!
So, where do we all stand so far?
For me:
300 kwhs used so far
Probably about 750 by the end of the month?
(Gas central heating, 40s, North of England, wfh most days, semi-detached old house)
Have used blankets & hot water bottle if chilly at night.
I live in S Wales. We have had a lot of rain in short bursts but it has been warm - the warmest October I can remember.0 -
We were going to put the heating on yesterday, but the boiler seems to be having a problem and keeps locking out so no heating or hot water for the time being.
Electric we used only 204 kwh in the last 30 days, which seems lower than usual.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...1 -
2 hours in September, system test.
Not at all yet in October as the dehumidifier runs vs wet & mould & us humans can mix porridge, star jumps & extra fleeces vs temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius…
Any visitor & we run the heating at 20 (unless they request otherwise.)

Real outlier: a total this month of 13.099kWh, consumed 2024-10-25 00:00 - 03:00 during a CrowdFlex power-up event, which gave me a low-cost (15p/kWh discount) chance to test both the storage heater and the immersion heater. The storage heater increased the temperature by 2-3º by 09:00 and kept it at around 16.5º until about 15:00, by which time it had run out of steam. The immersion heater worked up to a point; it hadn't been used since July 2022, and it looks like the main (bottom) element has failed. It was supposed to have been on, but when I felt around its mount to check for warmth, I was shocked as chunks of nasty sharp brown corrosion detritus fell away. My landlord won't like it when I tell him, even though the tank was installed in 1989. I had to stay awake to switch everything off again at 03:00 ...
This is a no-gas archaic stone-walled cottage in the East Midlands. A 5kW wood-burning stove keeps me warm enough, and I'll be glad when the WHD and WFP turn up so I can buy firewood for the winter.I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.0 -

Too much (600kWh of gas this month as at the end of yesterday South coast 4/5 bed detached) as the wife keeps switching the bloody heating on (and I figure its cheaper than a divorce)

None used. Bought wool jumpers. Wear wool baselayers. Use wool blankets in the evening if it's chilly.0

Heating is on a thermostat so never really off, but it hasn't kicked in. Still having windows open over night most days still.0
