  • yesterday i bought a pair of trainers from sports direct for my daughter, i tried 1 shoe on her bigger foot and it fit so i bought them.
i later showed my mum my purchase and she noticed that there were scuff marks and muck over them, to the point that they looked secondhand, so i went to return them, at first i only wanted to exchange for a cleaner pair.
i was then told by the manager that they were perfectly sellable as the dirt was from the shop floor because it is not cleaned (not the best admission to make to a customer), she then checked if there was any more in stock and told me that there wasn't, so i then asked for a refund and was told that it was company policy not give refunds if the goods were sellable.
i had a look round for an alternative as i knew i wasnt going to get my money back but there wasnt anything in my daughters size, so i returned to the counter to get a credit note, at which point the manager, in no uncertain terms said to me, that they had only been delivered into the store that day and so it must have been me that had made them dirty (to say i was disgusted is an understatement) especially as i had only taken 1 shoe out when i had tried it on her, and both shoes had been worn.
i was given my credit note and a form to send to their headoffice to make a complaint.
i dont know what to do next, trading standards have already been informed about the shoes

Its a tricky one because you could have scuffed them at home and how can you proove otherwise ?
  • id only had them about an hour, which she could tell by the receipt
  • My local sports direct store has no changing room facilities. Combined with their refund policy i have always been put off buying anything from their stores and i'm sure that i'm not the only person who feels this way.

I work at Sports Direct and our store often allows exchanges without the receipt as long as the item/s are in a resaleable condition and are small sales. Also refunds if the item/s have been brought the same day.

I have just been to Oxford street Sports direct. I was on the till when I paid by Credit Card. I forgot to pay by a 'credit note' I already had.

So, I asked to refund that transaction so that I could pay by 'credit note'.The girl at the till said 'No, it can't be done - No refunds'. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager said the same thing. He was not willing to understand my point of view.

So SPORTS DIRECT DOES NOT DO REFUND EVEN AT THE SAME TIME.

It seems almost illegal to me.
  • I didn't know they refuse to give refunds. I was rather shocked, and I might have upset the local store manager. But why do they prefer to lose a customer (and all his family) rather than give a refund? And Primark is the same is it? And where else? Can't MPs do something about this type of thing, instead of voting themselves pay-rises?

Have not been to one for ages. I love my Reeboks (chav I know), have been wearing them for years so thought getting them cheap would be great. Bought a pair and OMG they were plastic like awful, I would have sworn they were fakes as these were nothing like the ones I normally get. The box claimed they were the same as the more expensive ones I bought a week later. The new ones were great very strange experience.

  • Why do people associate cheap prices with poor quality?

Sports Direct is an aggressive retailer and I'll give you some insight...

The place looks like a jumble sale because you won't take the same route out as you did in (hence the tills are at the back and you may see something else you want to buy).

400 stores gives buying power and therefore, cheap cost prices meaning cheaper sale prices.

Lots of own-brand products are sold at high profit, Nike/Adidas/Reebok are sold to draw people in and then buy the own-brand products.

Many products are sold at a tiny margin to drive other company's to reduce their pricing and forcing them out of business.

Refunds are given according to law, companies have been and still are too generous with refunds meaning that when you get told "no" you think the law has been broken.

It's unfortunate that these policies are followed to the letter of the law but when there is a small minority that abuse the system - it means no-one can. The example of wearing Reebok classics for 5-a-side is a classic - are they designed for that?!?

People who want money back because something doesn't fit or has changed their mind always confuses me - you buy golf shoes for golf then you change your mind - do you not still need the shoes? If you've found them cheaper then you should have shopped around.

As for the stores looking a state, yes, the target market is chavs and people have no respect for them but if people had the common decency not to eat/drink instore and respected a place of work then they would look a little nicer.

And finally, as for the customer service standards - my store happy bin team for not being polite to people. Our attitude is that if we respect the store and the customers, eventually they will respect us. If not, and they so much as raise their voice - they're thrown out and served with a banning order. No one likes !!!!!!.
