Cannot comment on the returns policy, but there has been alot of mentiuon of the quality of the goods, which I feel is a little unfair. I have not boought Sportswear from anywhere else for about 5 years and have found it all fantastic.

Cant beat there £17 Lonsdale Trainers, last me well over a year at a time.

These stores are badly designed, jumble sale type shops staffed (in the large, in my experience) by surly and unhelpful "assistants". The stuff they sell is in the main poor quality, and they stock lots of brands which have seen better days.

I won't go near them, as the customer service is the worst on the high street.

    So there!

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I was in Sports World this morning (the Oracle, Reading) trying to exchange a pair of Small men's jogging bottoms for a Boy's pair age 13. The price difference was £6, but when I asked for this to be refunded to my Debit card, was staggered to be told that they don't do refunds!

I reluctantly accepted a credit note, but I will NEVER shop there again (it's manky in there anyway).

So now I understand how the owner of these stores is worth a small fortune.

PS - someone mentioned Primark are the same, but I got a refund in there recently with no problem.

its the same with primark too.
This is because the procedure was being abused.People would come in pick something up of a rail and take it up to customer services for a refund. The new policy was bought in quite some time ago now.Has caused a few problems.I don't expect to get a refund or exchange anywhere if I don't have my receipt.

Your statutory rights were not affected ;)

A shop is under no legal requirement to refund you if you buy the wrong item or change your mind. Giving you a credit note is going over an above what they are legally required to do in such circumstances.

Make sure you read one of the "sale of goods act" threads, basically, SAD FART

    Satisfactory quality
    As Described

    Fit for purpose
    And last a Reasonable Time

In the situation you describe, it appears the jogging bottoms met all of the conditions (the fit for purpose is fit for the intended purpose - i.e. as jogging bottoms)

you could approach it from the fact that theyre too big and "miss-sized" which you could say is a fault with them, with a fault you shouldnt need a receipt.

Seriously? She bought a size too big, that is not a fault. Her fault, though!

I was simply surprised to be offered a Credit note because I [incorrectly] believed that pretty much all shops give a 'no-quibble' refund these days. I DID have the receipt and yes, obviously the sizing mistake WAS my fault. I've learnt my lesson - I will send my son there to spend the £6.
