NST AUGUST 2024

Today was my unexciting birthday - took two roommates to doctor's appointment. Did eat lunch out as we had certificates for free hamburgers from a local place that we received through the Summer Reading program. And one of the roommates paid for the drinks - Diet Pepsi for me. The other roommate has promised to make me a birthday cake, but I am not sure how many days it will take. The last time it took about 4 days - but I did get one. He is using a lemon cake mix with lemon frosting. I know I have a present coming from one of the roommates because I helped pick it out - a small but thick purple notebook and a pack of 5 different pens to use in it.
Tomorrow I will go out with my sisters to celebrate turning 77. The oldest is only two years behind me. She will be celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary this year also - but they are going to Hawaii for both their anniversary and her birthday. The other sister is 15 years younger than me. Brother died back in 1995. He was 13 years younger than me. Mother used to claim she planned the last two so that she would have built-in babysitters. She did take advantage of the fact.

Happy birthday Nancy 🎂 pleased you were able to go out & enjoy yourselves. Hope the cake is as tasty as it sounds!
I had a little lie in this morning, as didn't need to wake anyone up, for a change! Then had a little panic, as my friend told me what time she'd be setting off from her house to my local agricultural show, picking me up en route, & me thinking I wouldn't have time to eat all my breakfast! But I did 😋
We went on a Ferris wheel, it was my first ever time 😊 her young grandson went on a few rides too, then sat in some tractors. The sun came out & we bumped into quite a few people we knew. One man stopped me to tell me that DS1's GF was looking for me, as he'd broken down in the far eastern side of our island, so we had to cut our time at the show short, so I could collect him before he was due to start work.
When I arrived, I discovered that DS1 had actually had a crash (but he didn't want to frighten me). A car had overtaken another car on a bend, going on to his side of the road, he'd swerved to avoid it, then lost control. He's thankfully ok & the police seemed to understand that it wasn't his fault, but his var is probably a write off & we have to find someone to replace the fence he knocked down.
Phoned a bank to help me access the new account I've set up. Pleased that I've got it sorted out now. Just waiting up, ready for a call to collect DS1 from the dance in the village, then I can head to bed
Grateful for DS1 being ok, the owner of the broken fence being amenable, fun times at the Show, going on a Ferris wheel for the first timeUse it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

Happy birthday @weenancyinAmerica !! my youngest sister is 15 years younger than me also. I certainly feel like I did my bit to raise her
@Thrifty_Taylor I'm glad your DS is OK. That must have been a shock.
Yesterday was a lovely day. We went to use the pool at the country house that belongs to the lady who I'm petsitting for. She rents it out as a holiday let but it was in between bookings. It was heavenly. Showed sis around the house, did laps of the pool, played card games and attempted to do some "work" on the laptop. it was NSD 4 I think.
Also had a nice surprise as the bank switching bonus finally arrived in my current account. So although my budget was up the creek I may now have a paddle!
Grateful for switching bonus arriving, for the sausage dog's attempts to swim, for being able to "work" remotely.
Have a wonderful day turtles xx

Glad the Thrifty Clan are all okay Congratulations on the Ferris Wheel ride. Boo to dangerous drivers!!Happy belated Birthday @weenancyinAmericaThings are just ticking along here in No-work-limbo-land.Went and got new glasses - £15 frames, because they are almost the same as the 2-4-£70 ones I got 4 years ago. Nice that something has become cheaper. 2 normal pairs, and one sunglasses pair - never had a prescription pair before - ended up being £45 after tint and UV, - but 3 pairs for £75 and I am still safe to drive, so all okay.Today I am cleaning my house from top to bottom. Well, it is a plan.....4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Happy belated birthday @weenancyinAmerica hope you got your cake by now!
I'm glad DS1 is ok, @Thrifty_Taylor that must have been scary!
Thank you for the list of August celebrations, @mothernerd, I always learn something! As an Italian, I just learned that spumone is a very local type of ice cream, born and popular in Naples and slowly disappearing, but popularised in America by migrants! My excuse is that I am from the North, which is very far in culture and even language is very different here. We do have the word "spumone", but we use it for a type of candy (similar to marshmallow, but not quite).
I'd like to add one celebration to that list actually, as someone in my Book club whatsapp group just mentioned that today is National Book Lovers Day! Grab a nice book and travel to another world tonight, if you can!
Today I am grateful it is Friday. I am grateful for the Olympics, I am not a particularly sporty person but I do love watching everything I can and I'm very excited for what is still happening between now and Sunday. I am going to do all the things I still need to finish for the week and then watch the gymnastics final this afternoon. Yesterday I have deep cleaned my mum's carpet in the living room and it came out really nice, so I will be doing the one she has in the bedroom tomorrow, it's quite a satisfying process. Today is going to be another NSD, number 6 or maybe 7?

The accounts were done - not double checked everything (I would usually) but the bits I did were all all right. They need sorting into a coherent order (I have my 'offer' worked out, but there is a little room for negotiation) and I need some copies made at the library. I ordered my mask yesterday so the last thing on my list is to find a solicitor (who can supervise negotiations). I don't want to be confrontational but I do need this settled one way or the other, If we reach agreement, the solicitor can draft the agreement in legal terms. If we're going to sale by auction, at least I'll have my money within a month and can start planning again (this will include some swapping rooms and doing remedial work at my house - one way or another I'm going to be stuck here into the new year, might as well make it as pleasant as possible.
I've just had to beg Beloved for ibuprofen - I put some on my order but getting downstairs to rummage in bags is beyond me atm.
Grateful for my little house which has given me shelter and sanctuary for so many years (ok I've lavished care and attention on it and whatever money didn't get spent on the boys), ibuprofen (I've really cut back but when you need it), easy food (cheese, carbs, yoghurt, fruit)My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage10 -
Busy day at work today. Planned to get the train but when I got to the station all the trains were cancelled. Luckily I live close by so went home to get the car. I was working in court today and was dealing with the fallout from the recent protests. I won't say too m much but as a professional it was a very interesting and sobering day.
Came home, did a few jobs and now just eating dinner before a bath. My current job has been advertised before I've had my notice acknowledged by HR (taking forever) and one of my managers sent an email letting everyone know the job ad is live before I've even told the team I'm going... not massively pleased but nothing I can do about it now.Save £2,400 tuition fees - £2,321.04 as of 08/24
Pay off credit card by December 2024 - £1,450/£2,0008
