Good morning,
we went for a lovely walk yesterday. This time I remembered my foraging book. We saw so many plants that we could eat. Even here in the neighbourhood there's loads. Need to start a wee personal list with time of the year etc so I don't have to carry the books all the time.
I think I'll just potter about the house and garden today. My raspberries need some support, wash the last bed, prep lunches, kill 3 wasps nests in the attic, fix a light switch etc. I'll finish the day with a relaxing pamper bath.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/258 -
Thank you all for the information on coverless duvets. I didn't know such a thin existed. Definitely something to look into. Anything that makes life easier.
Yesterday was our gala day. It used to be lovely but it's a bit tatty now, to be honest. But my cousin was organising the tearoom in her church so Himself and I took ourselves there for a roll and sausage and a bit of cake. Made a food donation to the homeless mission which the church supports while were there.
Bought some more plants from Aldi on the way back. They had loads of reduced sweet peppers. I had tomatoes to use up so I've made a big pot of tomato and red pepper soup. One of my favourites.
Off to plant up my begonias. Hope the weather stays fine. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.7 -
I am always so impressed by that volume of your sewing jobs @Thrifty_Taylor, it seems there are a never ending stream of islanders waiting to be pinned into things or re-zipped! Has it built up over the years and do you think being an island community makes people seek out sustainable local options?
Well done on the soup @Toni'sfriend, I don't think things are ever made worse by having a few portions of soup stashed away in the freezer or ready in the fridge. It's almost a love language between my cousin and I, we swap a few home made portions almost every time we see each other, adds a bit of variety
Good luck with the assessments over the next few days @DawnW, it's wearing emotionally to be trying to explain how things are on the worse days rather than the best ones. Sending hugs to you and all others who need to just fancy them!
I am on my way home from what turned into a lovely weekend with ladies from an old job of mine, I only knew one well, a couple in passing and others were friends of the central organising friend. We were all nervous but had a lovely time, it was so nice being in a low pressure environment. I slept a lot of the time, kept taking myself off for naps! The event we went too on the Saturday afternoon was great, we all enjoyed a bit of a dance and a sing along with a nice dinner. Not sure when I will next wear the 70:s flared jeans though they definitely weren't too much for this.
Our apartment was a bit of a let down, definitely not equipped for the number of people it was advertised for - we weren't even filling it and there wasn't enough sheets, pillows, tiny hand towels instead of the promised bath sheets, just 3 cups for a 5 bed apartment, a handful of plates / bowls but not enough for one each, millions of knives and no spoons, broken fridge door. Shower broke, door wouldn't close to patio into bedroom, lights flickered, tiles fell off the bathroom wall, wasn't ready an hour after the advertised time so we had to go and wait in a prosecco and pizza bar (how arduous!).l wasn't really clean once we got in, dining chairs didn't all have seats in them, door couldn't be locked from the outside etc. At London prices I don't mind if it's basic but this was just shoddy! Anyway, we have had the owner and their repairman on speed dial and they came out to us 3 times over the weekend for things like the non shutting door, so were responsive, but we have made a complaint and are expecting a partial refund, which will help towards costs of snacks & drinks. It was a good location and excellent company which meant it was all quite funny, but constantly notifying them of issues was a real drain, and one of our team was late to the event because of the door lock.
Tomorrow's day trip out with family has been cancelled and we'll be hanging out in my hometown instead, am glad - it will be nice to spend time with them at the flat, and nice to do a couple of local things, nicd not to have so far to drive and nice to be no costs! That and the anticipated refund will help ensure the fun days out pot is not quite so depleted.9 -

Today I am grateful for a day at home, for more raspberries, for builder friend coming round to check a couple of things, for me and dh shifting a lot of stuff from the back room and the under the stairs cupboard into the front room, for getting 75% of my marking batch done so far, for Pip deciding to sort through all the old Polly Pockets and then keep just a few.

I love the sound of your weekend with your old colleagues @Starlight_at_Sea, apart from the apartment that is! How anyone could charge for that with all the inadequacies is beyond me!!
My alterations/repairs business has built up over the years. There are a few folk on our island who also do them, but for those needing things doing, they don't often know who can help them. Some advertise on local pages, looking for help, & past customers or friends often tag me in them, or they go into the haberdashery in town, (where my mum used to work) & the staff there refer them to me. There's also a well-reputed lady who makes wedding dresses, who is sending folk my way, as she doesn't have time for the 'smaller' stuff.
Pleased that I went out to the garden first thing this morning. Hubby has a lie in at the weekend, & I'm a lark, so went out & moved the contents of 3 compost heaps along to the next bay, then weeded the herb bed. It kept raining in me, but I didn't care!
Went for a shorter walk with DH when he got up., I found an empty eggshell, which I didn't recognise, so took it home. It's a Curlew's egg. I'll take it to work tomorrow, to show the class.
I was quite achy, so had a nap after dinner, then spent the rest of the day altering a beautiful dress for Prom Night on Friday. I've got a lady coming tomorrow, to be pinned into a trouser suit for a royal garden party. No pressure there then! 🤯🤣
Grateful for doing jobs outside, time to read my book, finding the egg, Bob Harris radio shows

I still have covid in the house. Was sure it would be gone by now, 7th day of positivity for DS4, who is not impressed at all. It can't last much longer surely! I am going stir-crazy being responsible and not mixing with the general populace, 12th day in total of plague-house-dom. Dull!Going to build a bookcase, fix a different bookcase, and tidy up a bit (a lot) are on today's list of fun-packed activities.I have already iced a chocolate cake and packed DS3 off to GCSE maths paper 3 - the last maths paper! Hooray! Hence the cake being ready for elevensies when he returns.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Morning turtles
I haven't posted for a good few days, I think pretty much every day has been a spend day since I last posted
Thursday I bought pizza for OH and I as a bit of an apology for reversing his van into a hedge and scratching it (will need to fix that at some point). Friday small spend on a packet of crisps. Saturday went into London for a social, spent about £50 on food and drink, plus train fare. Yesterday had to entertain my niece so took her to see my share horse and then for an ice cream.
Today we're meant to be getting a visit from a plumber as our heating doesn't work but hot water does. They've ignored my attempts to find out what time they're coming so I've no idea if they'll even show up. It's my non-working day but I do need to log on for something important so it would be good to know if/when they're going to come. If not it's back to the drawing board. Rabbit also needs to go to vet this afternoon so yet more spends there.Save £2,400 tuition fees - £2,321.04 as of 08/24

Think I'm on NSD No 6
The soup was lovely, Starlight. My Granny used to make a huge pot of soup every morning using what vegetables were available from my Grandfather's garden. My brother and I had it most days for lunch and dinner. Meat was expensive then and was reserved for the "working men" of the household. We were only allowed one small bag of sweets a week and ,do you know, we were really healthy children. In fact my brother is still the healthiest person I know. At age 71 he still plays 5a side football and golf every day.
Begonias are all planted up and my neighbour gave me 2 beautiful lavender plants. My little container garden is starting to look more like it's usual self. Not quite as good as it was yet but, then, neither am I. We will both be blooming in a few weeks.
Still plodding away with the tidying and great declutter. Honestly, where did all this stuff come from? A lot of it is toiletries. Things that we had bought, put away, couldn't remember where they were so bought more. I'll never have to buy shower gel or toothpaste ever again. Really there is that much. Do you think the food bank or some other charity might make use of some?
We're going to Perthshire for a few days tomorrow. Undoubtedly, I won't be able to post on my Ipad so see you all on Friday. Better get on with the packing. xxx
