They say the offer does not apply to those who opened an HSBC account after 1 Jan 2018. Does that kind of condition usually get applied? I know that the RBS/NatWest/Ulster offer said you could only apply to one but in practice people got all three. I have never had a First Direct account but opened an HSBC Advance account last November, and it is still open for its final bonus.
I don't know for certain if this is still the case but I was able to get the FD £175 switching offer last year despite having opened 2 HSBC current accounts since 2020 (1 in 2021 and another in 2022), though I've never had a HSBC switching offer. I'm pretty sure I've seen reports of people receiving the FD switching offer and then getting the HSBC offer a few months later so it seems that like the NatWest group, the HSBC group banks aren't the best at communicating with each other.

Of course I opened my very first account with the HSBC/First Direct group last week.  Chalking this one up as an L.

Yep, this poster (last post on page) got a FD bonus and HSBC bonus within one month of each other.

A google search says GB News is reporting this.
A highly trusted source then
It would seem so, they got the news out before everyone, even FD themselves!

A nice thing about this offer is that you have to transfer two direct debits or STANDING ORDERS. And presumably if you are switching from a burner account one standing order can be into your regular account.

So just to clarify, I had a first direct bank account until about 2016, so I'm not eligible right?

Could you use 1 standing order and 1 DD? If so, standing order into regular account and paypal direct debit funding. Easy and free.

Yep that was me on that post, I've had 2 bonuses from both banks (4 total) latest ones in April 2023 from FD and May 2023 from HSBC. I won't be trying again just yet, might give it a year or two to give them enough time to 'forget' me again.
  • I have had a first direct account before, but it was at a different address. How likely do you think it would be that they notice if I tried to get this switch offer? I haven't had any previous switch offers with FD so I find it a bit annoying that I'm excluded. I suppose I could open an account just to get the cashback from topcashback and attempt the switch bonus while I'm at it.
