update
Ricks doing really well, been in tonight and yes he's talking.
he's lost 4st in weight and his arms and legs are thinner than my 6yr old's arms and legs i'm sure of that. the only thing that tastes right for him is milk, but he is eating in small amounts (3 meals a day) he has a supplement something like build up, but he thinks this is foul. the nurses have 12 pints of full fat milk in the fridge for him and he has a cupboard full of treats and snacks. his mum bought in a portable dvd player (one for the car type) and we took him in a large selection of films etc, but he misses the simpsons and top gear.
he's definitly grown up and obviously had loads of thinking to do as his outlook has changed on life yet he remains positive.
he's having oxygen through the nose but is still heavily breathing - the hairdresser never turned up but he is adamant that he is going to walk (with zimmer) by the end of the weekend to the hairdressers on the bottom floor (the physio's are positive too) he can get to the end of his room at the moment. he's desperate to see my children and we have told him that if he gets to the bottom floor, i will take in the children to meet him in the cafe.
my little boy has been so upset by Ricks illness that i have found out today that he has asked if they can do a morning prayer at school for rick which they have been doing everyday.
he's preparing himself for his discharge (while away yet) BUT he is toying with the possibility of letting his mother look after him.
he's in with old men who are constantly snoring so he's had little sleep, however they have put him on sleeping tablets for tonight. i did notice a young lad in the same ward (different room) about the same age so i am also toying with the idea of suggesting that they put them together (nothing ventured nothing gained).Give blood - its free0 -
great news!! please suggest to staff that they move him nearer to youge lad if possible as they will at least have somthing in common and will be able to talk about age normal things. nothing is worse than being the only young un in a ward of old people .. although if he does well and starts to show good signs of improvement it can help lift the mood of the ward/bay.
as i have said before i was put on a ward of old folk - more than once - first time it happened i was in tears - my brother could only visit me once due to work and found me on the ward after spending to days on the day unit in tears - i had only just got on to the ward and i was distraught. the lady opersite managed to come over (on zimmer) and try to comfort me - then her physio came to see her and couldn't believe she had got so far!! she had only managed to get her standing in the previous days session. when asked by the physio how she managed it she said i thought i could help her (me) and had to try. i was gobsmaked!! after that i tried to get to know and help the oldies on the ward!! it can work for both old and young!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Aw Rick really loves you and your children i bet it will be a very touching moment when they meet again.
I also think it would be a good thing if Rick could be with someone his own age please let him know we are all with him and he will be home soon xx0 -
FSDSS, I'm really pleased he's doing so well. :T:T
It sounds like he's very determined! Now he's on a normal ward can his friends and girlfriend visit him more?
If he likes Top Gear, what about putting a 'wanted' post on freecycle asking for any magazines peopls may have?Proud to be a Clob Clubber :beer:0
