I'm glad to hear that Rick is doing ok, but sorry that he's feeling down about his benefits situation. Has he put in a claim for Income Support? Since he hasn't paid enough stamps for IB, he may be entitled to claim IS based on his current incapacity for work. Information here about it.
  • My son, who has been ill for some time, received income support, then after 6 months was able to claim incapacity benefit for young people, even though he had not paid stamps. Rick should definately put in a claim for income support to start with, and he will probably be able to claim the other benefit later.

He might be able to claim Disability Living Allowance too.

great to get an update on rick's progress - shame about the benifits, hopefully he can get somthing else sorted - a year is going to be a long haul to recovery.

all the best to you and rick for the future.

    Hi fsdss

Have followed Rick's progress since your first past and am pleased to hear that he is doing so well.

I can understand the frustration at being signed off for a year - and having no money! I work for an occupational benevolent fund and am part of a group of charities that help people based either on their work experience an in some cases their illness / disability.

Don't know what Rick did or if there is a fund that could help but if you click on the website http://www.benevolencetoday.org/ on the right hand side is a box you can click to search for help. Even if he doesn't qualify for government help there may be a fund that can help until he gets back on his feet.

HTH and best wishes to you all

    Hi fsdss
As you know me and my family have took Rick to our hearts and i really hope you and Rick are well you are always in our thoughts
    xx
  • With regards to Rick not being able to claim incap due to the stamps not being paid, there has been a huge problem with the national insurance not being recorded correctly by the NI office and therefore it is affecting some benefit claims. Find out from the incap office which years they are looking at for the benefit and take p60s in refering to those years... it might just help x

Thanks for letting us know how Rick is. I have been wondering too. Also been wondering how you are coping with everything too.
