in case you didn't read the thread martin (yes THE Martin:money:) has pm'd me asking me to write a new thread about the benefits of giving blood, why we should consider it and to mention Rick. The purpose of this is to highlight its importance and so that he can put it on the weekly bulleting email.

rick had a slight setback this afternoon but this was quickly resolved- the good news is that he may be "brought round to consciousness" at the beginnning of next week. i cant wait i'll be too excited to sleep.

i promised to treat myself to an early night tonight for a much desperate sleep but i suppose thats out of the window now!

Thats great fingers crossed for next week, you must be due some high high's after these low low's ... I'll keep my fingers crossed x

And well done on your other news, I've been a donor for about 15 years (very money saving what with the free tea and biscuits ;)) Good luck with your campaign

    update

Wow good news - went to see Rick this afternoon he looks great- just like his own self (but asleep) his skin is brilliant, his hair is shiny and they have removed 2 of his 4 chest drains in this afternoon!!! and it makes a difference that the bubble wrap thing that he was wrapped in is no longer there

gone is the puffiness - rouged or pale complexion. as i said he looks like he's asleep - gone is the desperation and dying look.

i held his hand and spoke to him, but no response yet. he's having a tracheotomy on monday to aid his breathing and then they are going to reduce the sedation.

we had a bit of humour this afternoon - his uncle suggested that when he wakes up that we should tell him that its 2011 and that his 4 children and wife are in the next room waiting for him!!!
    Give blood - its free
  • Great news!!! I bet you all can't wait to be able to chat to him and tell him how much he means to you!

Would love to be a fly on the wall when he finds out about 'the wife and kids' though! lol:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

What fantastic news. Keep talking to Rick

When my dad was in ICU we kept talking to him and occasionally since then, he has mentioned that although "he was out of it" he does remember some things happening. It was my mum and dad's Golden Wedding Anniversary when dad was very heavily sedated and definitely unable to have any sort of conversation with us, but he does remember mum and I walking into the ward with balloons and being allowed to tie them on the bed (although only for half an hour due to risk of infection as it was ICU), so keep talking and telling him how much he means to you all. It might seem pointless to you at the time as it appears to be a one way conversation but who knows what he might remember.

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.
