    Update

Ricks having his chest drains back in today as he's not coping so well as expected without them, but then again he could be much worse. they think he might need a little more time to recuperate so bringing him round is up in the air ATM.

i slept poorly again last night, kept waking up every hour and i woke again just before 5am with stomach ache so i got up and made a hot water bottle and laid on sofa watching Eastenders!!! the stomach ache went pretty rapidly - i think it was stress. i have avoided the hospital today just in case i have a bug, but i dont think i have.

i think it is too - apart from this i am starting my business a week tomorrow after planning it for ages - i have contracts and commitments which i cannot change - also i have forked out on nearly £900 advertising. i have had to collect stuff from the printers etc amongst all this and do an equipment check / risk assessments / policies etc (most done 2 months ago - i had to double check everything was in order prior to start.) but as they say "the show must go on". if i put it off due to Ricks illness i will lose the confidence of my clients who have pre booked.

does anyone know if Rick is entitled to any benefits? - i haven't spoken to his friend who he shares a house with but the rent (bills etc) will need to be paid at some point and i know rick hasn't got any savings as we often bung him a few quid / buy some shopping etc. his parents cannot afford to bail him out. unfortunately i have piled in extra cash for my business set up costs and have depleted my life savings.

he wont be paid also whilst in hospital as he was p/t building labour / farm hand amongst other things .

  • Not sure about the benefit side of things sorry but if you dont manage to get an answer here try the Benefits Board. I am sure he should be due something surely? And if he is someone needs to apply ASAP coz I am sure these things are not rushed through and like you say his flatmate will probably need the rent etc and Rick will probably need things too.

    Good luck

  • Hi,

I've been following this thread from the start, so glad that Rick is on the mend.

It has also inspired me to donate blood, I've registered on line.

I should have done it months ago as I had a c-section with my DD and obviously they would have had to have blood on standby for that - it wasn't required fortunately.

I've just done Wikipedia search on what I think my blood group is and it looks like it is a rare one too!

I hope you are feeling better today and that Rick is doing well also.
I must say that I really admire your strength and am glad that you manage to update us on Rick's condition.
I haven't given blood for about 6 1/2 years and have often meant to try again but never got round to it.
Reading this thread has given me the kick up the backside that I need and I am hoping to attend a session this Saturday.

Fingers crossed that Rick continues to improve.

i haven't been into the hospital today as i feel a little run down - i had a couple of sneeze, which usually i wouldnt notice, but i'm so sensitive at the moment about not passing anything on that i am taking precaution- so just taking it easy.

Rick had a good steady night last night- i'm awaiting for a report from the hospital - his girlfriend visited the hospital with a few mates (without first getting permission) and apparantly Rick responded to her talking to him whilst he was unconscious.
