It's easy peasy, honestly! I've tried to give blood three times and unfortunately I've got dodgy veins or something that they reckon kept collapsing, so they told me not to bother in the end, I was really disappointed. You can always have a local anaesthetic in your arm before the main event, which they're happy to give, but having not had the local the first time, then having them insisting on giving it to me the second and third times, I see no reason to bother. But that's just from my experience. It's just that the local stings a bit, whereas without it I didn't feel a thing anyway. I was just a bit concerned about them forgetting to take the needle out and sucking all the blood out of me (some hope as it turned out!) but the nurse stays with you and has a timer, so no chance of that!!

I've got afew friends in work who've given blood in the past so I'll be chivvying them up on Monday when I get back to work!

And it looks like we made it once again

    Update
Ricks had a poor night, he was given 100% oxygen. they believe that it was because of the mucus on his chest which he was trying to cough up. (they reduced his sedation which caused the cough reflex) they were whipping him down to theatre to do a tracheostomy (hole in the throat) to aid his breathing and clear the mucus. however he went down to theatre - they x rayed him and decided against the proceedure as his lungs were looking well.
they have heavily sedated him again (since last night) and he is comfortable and still stable. the oxygen level they give him has dropped again to 50% so they are quite confident. it seems when they either move him or reduce sedation, the oxygen he needs increases.
i have got Becca, his sister coming here in a moment for lunch before she goes to hospital.
she slept really poorly last night so she needs a little tlc - i slept well (6 hours) but feel as though i have just had an hour or so. yesterday i felt worse (but had less sleep) so munchkin and i stayed in all day laying on the sofa watching wizard of oz and chitty chitty bang bang amongst others.

the house is looking poorly kept but i did manage to get the ironing done yesterday and cook for the family. i'm not bothered about the house its only dis-organised but not dirty. i think the last week is catching up on us all. my friend came round this morning with her little boy to play for an hour and have a coffee- she stated she's coming back later to help me round the home (which is great).

as he remains stable - you instinctively relax a little and start wanting answers and the need to blame something. fortunatly we are all feeling the same "what if i had done this" "when was the last time...." "if i had only insisted". the thing is we all feel at the same stage of "grief" i suppose. the power of communication is re-assuring us that at the end of the day were all at the same stage, and couldn't change or predict a thing that has happened.

this morning they stated that they hope to have him awake by the beginning of next week. so something to look forward to.

fsdss thank you for the update on Rick, I really hope his condition improves over the weekend and his family are able to see him awake.

Rick has inspired me to donate blood for the very first time. (at 40!)

Thank you for the updates. It's certainly a rollercoaster of emotions for you all. You seem a very strong close family. Rick will be drawing his strength from this.

in case you didn't read the thread martin (yes THE Martin:money:) has pm'd me (with prompting i may add) asking me to write a new thread about the benefits of giving blood, why we should consider it and to mention Rick. The purpose of this is to highlight its importance and so that he can put it on the weekly bulleting email.

rick had a slight setback this afternoon but this was quickly resolved- the good news is that he may be "brought round to consciousness" at the beginnning of next week. i cant wait i'll be too excited to sleep.

i promised to treat myself to an early night tonight for a much desperate sleep but i suppose thats out of the window now!
