  • You said the room needed a kettle. Someone posted a link for this offer I don't know if this is something you could buy out of your auction money?

What a great idea to take pictures to fill in his missing days. I was in ICU a couple of years ago when I had a twisted bowel. I was kept asleep for 3 days and have no recollection of that time at all. It was so strange to start waking up and hearing my dad saying 'It's Thursday - you've been asleep since Monday'. Apparently my dad was at my side all the time and I knew nothing about it.

It's still difficult now if I think about it too much - it seems there's such a fine line between being alright, and then being seriously ill. It makes you appreciate what you have, like they say you never know what's around the corner.

I'm so pleased Rick is continuing to do well

Sending all of you good wishes xxxxx

    update
went to hospital today- got held back for an hour and a half (we were worried something was wrong) then a nurse came out and told us that there had been an incident a few beds down from Rick which needed greater attention.

Rick was laying on his left side today and looked rather flushed and felt hot - his oxygen level was up to 75% which was a bit worrying as yesterday it was 45%. but the nurse said he was stable and had come round a bit more during the day - but i didn't see any indication of this.

unfortunately i couldn't really understand the nurse as her english was poor so there was a barrier there today but i did get the "still stable".

Ricks girlfriend was spoken to a couple of days ago and we know and assured her that she's not to blame unfortunately she's now on holiday in cornwall with her mates and will be back at the weekend and from there on she's coming to visit Rick.

i bought a lovely book for Rick and given it to his sister to co-ordinate - with getting personal messages and a diary completed of his missing days. the photo idea is held on a limb at the moment as not everyone is comfy with it.

i see my auction is now £10, spoke to the initial hospital to ask a couple of questions about missing property of Ricks (which they were holding) and they would be delighted to accept money (however much) to upgrade the family room.

Fantastic, I'm so glad you have good news!

I've been reasing and following your thread from the start and I've felt your pain through it, I know how painful it is to watch someone you love in a state like that. It's the not knowing that hurts the most I think but I hope you feel some positivity now, I bet he is stronger than you think and that he is going to damn well prove it to you all, he already is I think hehe

i may have got the wrong end of the stck, but do you mean his oxygen sats (levels) are up to 75%, if so this is a good sign:j or do you mean they have turned the oxygen he is recieving up 30% more o2 !! the important thing is that he is still stable, unfortunatly alot of nhs workers are imported and have little comand of the english language - so frustrating - it does not mean they are any worse at their jobs. i would be alot more worried that he was feeling hot and flushed (maybe infection). Just because you did not see evidence of him 'coming round a bit more' dosn't mean it did not happen - grandfather was in hospital after a stroke, and hospital staff kept saying he had been responsive earlier - i did not belive it untill another patient confirmed he had been calling out for "john" my dad, his son before we got there, several times throughought the day!!
all the best for rick i truley believe he will recover, i am still keeping him in my prayers - (by the way if they have turned up hid artificial oxygen 30% it is because he needs it to recover, trust them they are the professionals and know about these things)

all the best hope rick gets better soon

i'm not truley sure i did ask the question about oxygen level but was unable to understand - Ricks parents didnt understand her reply either, the nurse's English was very poor which is no indication about her professional ability at all - so i apologise if it came across that way -it was by no means meant that way.

yesterday his oxygen level on the screen showed 45% the nurse explained that every other breath was Ricks and that they were topping him up. today the same oxygen indicator was saying 75% (when he was 91% + ) we knew the machine was doing all the breathing work for him.

anyway Ricks mum rang in just now and spoke to the allocated nurse for this evening - he was warm and flushed because they were feeding him and giving him things through tubes and when we visited he was wrapped in a polythene type bubble wrap after having just been bathed and cleaned etc, his core temp had remained stable, they had just moved him onto his left side (where the lung was the problem) to which he apparantly struggled with, but he remains stable, so could be indicative of oxygen increase.
I have every confidence with Glenfield hospital - they are the experts in the lung field and i am sure they would have been honest with us if there was a problem.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this time, and all the best to Rick for a speedy recovery.

I went into hospital for a burst appendix on Christmas Eve 2003 after two weeks with a misdiagnosed grumbling appendix (two doctors told me I had gastroenteritis). I do remember waking up early on Christmas morning after emergency surgery and groggily wishing the nurses a happy Christmas before dropping off again!

Reading through this thread has made me appreciate what my dear parents and family must have been going through when I was in hospital too. I was so busy getting better I had not realised what they must have been thinking. It's given me real pause for thought...

He sounds like a strong chap and the medical team will be doing their best to get him well.

    All the best,

    Eph.
