    update

Wow good news - went to see Rick this afternoon he looks great- just like his own self (but asleep) his skin is brilliant, his hair is shiny and they have removed 2 of his 4 chest drains in this afternoon!!! and it makes a difference that the bubble wrap thing that he was wrapped in is no longer there

gone is the puffiness - rouged or pale complexion. as i said he looks like he's asleep - gone is the desperation and dying look.

i held his hand and spoke to him, but no response yet. he's having a tracheotomy on monday to aid his breathing and then they are going to reduce the sedation.

we had a bit of humour this afternoon - his uncle suggested that when he wakes up that we should tell him that its 2011 and that his 4 children and wife are in the next room waiting for him!!!

So so pleased at Rick's improvement...:j

..as for the housework...s*d it! just do the absolute minimum..it'll be there when all this seems like a bad memory x

You must be so relieved, things are going in the right direction!

You have had some great idea's btw!

You should maybe get in touch with your local press about this, it will be a great success story and you have the interest on this thread alone! This could help with fundraising etc.

For the time being, I look forward to your positive updates that make me smile each time I see them.

My poor brothers scar has opened up now and is bleeding and he is looking at a further 10 weeks of work (he is stressing about his students taking GCSE's, the nurse has said that stress will delay his recovery) You, will especially understand that this is easier said than done!

Life is just so trying isn't it? But it makes us stronger in the process :)

Rick is lucky to have sucha caring family.

  • I've been following this thread since it started up too, I am so pleased things are improving for you all. Love the bit about telling him about the wife & kids!!! My dad was in an ICU a few years ago & the staff there are fantastic, and even in the grimmest situation you can find warmth & humour - and that's what keeps you going sometimes.

You reminded me of a little saying I've heard in the past too - something along the lines of "A woman is like a teabag - you never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water" ...
