Just popping on to see if Rick is ok - I am so glad his condition has improved a bit.
FSDSS - You are being so brave and if using this thread as a blog helps you then so be it !! Hang in there Hun - things will get better.
I would also just like to add someting here - shmefully I have never donated blood - I am terrified of needles and tend to pass out quite easilyEven more shamefully in 2005 (Midnight Christmas Day 2005) I collapsed at home with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy - I died twice on Boxing Day and needed 2 blood transfusions - if it wasn't for them I wouldn't bne typing this today.
Furthermore at the begining of October I had a baby girl by c-section and again needed 2 blood transfusions.
fter reading this thread and realising I have probably used my fair share of the Blood Bank I have decided one of my aims for 2008 is going to be to donate blood
Could anyone fill me in on when I could give blood and any contraindications - i.e. I think I cannot give blood until 12 months after giving birth ?? Is there anything else that could stop me ???
I am so happy though Rick is pulling through although he is in a serious condition - sounds like they think his condition is promising or they wouldn't have moved him and it sounds like he is in the best place.
((hugs)) to everyone who had friends and family fall ill over Christmas - my thoughts are with you all.
Another thought - FSDSS - would it be possible to speak to some of the people who were unhappy with their Christmas gifts and get them to donate them to you. You could then doa car boot and any money raised could go to the hospital to make the relatives room more comfortable. I can imagine in times of distress like this people need a "room from home" to be in to help with some of the worry and stress.
Hugs to you all

When I come on this site this is now the first thread I look for. What great support he is receiving from evidently very loving people. Very best wishes to Rick, You ALL in fact.
I have my appt booked for my blood donating station at 6.30pm on 2nd January and wouldn't miss it for the world. In fact wont be drinking on new years day, for my own personal peace of mind.

Tashja, I don't think you'll be able to donate blood if you've received transfusions. There is a who can donate section on the NBS (National Blood Service) website so you can have a look at that.
If you can't donate you could alwaays try and help a friend by looking after their kids or something whiel they donate?Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
Oh no
Looks like I can't give blood then because I have had 4 transfusions. I know they want to give out the best possible blood but you would have thought if it was good enough to give me in the first place it would be ok to donate more
Hubby can donate though so will work on getting him to donate for me.
Thanks for the link Fritha.

we have decided that we will have a party for Rick when he recovers to raise money for the hospital- we are lucky that we know a lot of people who can influence and make a significant difference to fundraising.Give blood - its free0 -
update on Rick
As you know Rick went to Glenfield this morning because of the lung problem. on arrival they x rayed him (using their advanced equipment) and found a kink in the tube to the lung. using physio they have managed to unkink the tube. and Rick is needing less and less oxygen.
Rick is so much better today and we're more confident he's more stable -Glenfield is an amazing hospital - so clean and organised. he's on less paralysing drugs and less oxygen and managed to groan and briefly looked at his dad today. he slightly blinked at me.
the nurse care is constant
he's had his teeth cleaned and was about to be shaved and certainly had more colour in his cheeks - he is no longer on dialysis as he can manage this alone.
really pleased with progressGive blood - its free0 -
i am so glad to hear he is doing so much better today, it must be a great relief for you and all the family.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I'm so pleased he seems to be responding to this treatment. He is definately in the right place. I keep coming on here checking if you've placed any further updates and thank you for updating us all.
You sound a truely amazing person and an aunt in a million. Will keep wishing and praying that he makes a full recovery.
