  • Great news. Have been popping back and forward awaiting news. That poor boy! You've done so well both keeping ups informed and keeping spirits up and people fed. You're a fine person and I'd just like to take a wee minute to say thank you to YOU. The panic and sadness you projected at the beginning of this thread is what got us all praying for Rick. Imagine that! People all over Britain concerned about you and yours. We await the boy who gets all better.

thanks fletch (in fact all of you). I'm not that special - i just feel i need to do something positive and keep everyone motivated which includes looking after my niece who needs special TLC at the moment. preparing food etc is just my way of helping of doing something which is positive at least by doing this the family can keep an eye on each other and make sure everyone eats. the cost of parking and canteen food can be very expensive when you have no option but to stay. yesterday it was £10 for 3 breakfasts and £6 each car for parking and tea coffee is expensive when you total it all up - you just couldnt afford to do that 3 times a day. Ricks mum (and step-dad) and dad (and step-mum) will not get paid whilst they are at the hospital so they need some help

i originally posted on here because i didnt know what to do - i had the telly on - the house was scrubbed clean and i couldn't contact anyone, i was fed up with myself reading posts (including mine) about insignificant issues such as the inequality of Christmas presents given.

Just defrosting a chicken so it will be roast chicken for all i think i will put it in the slow cooker again tomorrow as that seems to work well in keeping things hot and the crock is easy to carry into hospital - its amazing what you can do when you apply your mind - today we had tomato soup in large flask, pot roast / veg and Christmas cake for Pudding. plus a large flask of coffee. there are no facilities in the family room to make anything (drinks included) tomorrow as it's new years eve i am going to do a cheese board for the medical team.

just got a phone call - rick will be moving to Glenfield tomorrow so he must be stable enough to go there. fingers crossed

WHEN Rick gets better i am going to post a piccie on here for you all.

fsdss, you really are inspirational! Your family are so lucky to have you.

It is easy to say that anyone would do it, especially at this time of year, but youn are like a Guardian Angel to them all :) You are not wallowing about looking for pity, you are full systems go and doing everything, the little things that are forgotton about. :D You are remarkable in my book.

I will look forward to your updates and I will be thinking of you all tomorrow and wishing you a great 2008, I will raise my glass to you all at midnight :)

Rick is a fighter and he keeps on fighting! The fact they are allowing him to travel 40 miles speaks volumes for his strength!

My thoughts are with you all.

i am not that special - i am emotionally hanging on by a thread and trying my best to do keep going without falling and the best thing i can do is keep busy -if i sat down and did nothing i would be a wreck, i am doing something which i enjoy - cooking -it relaxes me and the children can have an input in helping me. Becca enjoys cooking too so we made loads of pancakes and stuffed them with ice cream and everything bad for you (we even had a quality street pancake just to try:D)- but boy it was good stuffing loads of calories down our chops, and we always feel better after having a good hearty meal. tonight we made popcorn chocolate crispy cakes (yeh i know;)) and the children loved them.

i have an assignment due next week for uni- but they've given me an extension so that's alleviated some pressure.

i still have small children to look after and a house to run - you never know with this nervous energy i might be a size 12 by next week.:D

What you have just said, is the reason you ARE special. You are coping yet somehow holding itall together for those around you.

Good luck with your assignment, it is funny how we somehow find the strength to do things when put under pressure. Everything will work out just fine, wait and see :)

Oh Quality Street pancakes, I may have to experiment with those! (look, you are managing to help me and I'm probably on the other side of the country!)

It is good you have the strength to keep busy, but remember you are not superwoman and you need your time too!

Ricks mum has just panicked me- she phoned 10 mins ago, just as i was going off-

they are following the ambulance blue lighting it to Glenfield hospital, she is in absolute panic, i have re-assured her that they wouldn't move him if he wasn't fit for the journey.and at the end of the day they are a leading hospital with a much bigger and more experienced team for dealing with Rick and they've come this far in saving his life that they wouldn't dare to risk it again.
I've come downstairs for a cup of tea - she's going to ring me when they get there i can understand her panic, i would be too. we've decided I'll wait up for her call whilst hubby sleeps - then i can lie in in the morning .so we'll do it on a rotational basis.
as usual theres crap on the telly and nothing good recorded.

i think i'm using this as a blog now , but it really is helping me to see things rationally.

    Hi fsdss!:hello:
Along with the many fellow MSE peeps, I wanted to send my love and support sweetheart and I'm keeping Rick in my thoughts. I only found your thread yesterday hunnie and I appreciate your updates.
I'm sorry to hear about this morning's panic hun and I hope the journey went well. As you say, I'd be surprised for them to move him for a road journey if he was too ill to take it, although it's bound to be stressful for everyone.

And as for you angel, you're being very sensible and holding everyone together and organizing things. We all have our own formulas for trying to get through these situations hun and I think it is very important that YOU have somewhere to bring your honest feelings and fears to. Posting here is providing a kind of outlet for you sweetheart - and you've already found a whole host of guardian angels here, that are here for you as well as for Rick. :A :T
So, while the events have moved away from you locally, I hope you'll remember that you have a place to come to here and share, regardless. Rick - and all the other poor souls in similar positions everywhere - is in my thoughts and I wish you and your family the best of everything that a New Year can bring.sLo_hug2.gif
    Much Love,

Thinking of you, Rick and the family. Glenfield is a brilliant place with state-of-the-art facilities, so Rick will get expert care and attention. Well done you for taking care of the practical stuff like food and laundry -like you say it'll save money and keep you busy, but its great that the family have you to lean on in that way so they can concentrate on being there for Rick.
    Hoping for good news. x
  • I can understand how your sister feels, my child was 8 and had a stroke caused by a blood clotting problem we did not know she suffered from. When we moved around the country to various hospitals I could not bare the time she was in the ambulance being transported- I wanted her near everything incase an emergency should arise, the hollow helpless feeling is unbelievable. Take care and I'll continue praying for you all xx
