My card was activated and first used on the 6th of April - the first £3 fee was also taken that day.
The first lot of cashback was paid May 1st and the next fee taken May 6th (a bank holiday).
I wonder if cashback is always paid on a calendar month basis, but fee is related to anniversary.
That's what I think it is. The fee had been taken on the anniversary of me opening the card. The cashback is paid on statement date. I was told my statement date could be any date between 26th and 30th of the month.

The 28th is understandable as I mentioned earlier - but why the 26th or 27th ?

No idea. I asked for the statement date to be changed to 27th and was told the best they could do was between 26th and 30th. Am guessing something to do with weekends and bank holidays.

Just to confirm - after checking the Ts&Cs -
"Month’ means the period between your monthly statements. Once you have reached the maximum spend amount in the period since the date of your last monthly statement, any further spend before the date  of your next monthly statement will not qualify for cashback."

  • So just to be clear, if I make a payment of £750 on the 24th of the month and then another payment of £750 on the 1st of the month I’ll receive £15 cash back each month

I have been advised that my statements will be produced between 24-26 of each month.

That is when statements will be produced.

If you make a payment on 24th of the month, and it does not clear in time to appear on that statement, another purchase on the 1st of the next month is likely to just leave a statement balance of £1,500 on that next statement, £750 of which would earn no cashback.

Just ensure the £750 is spent, and transactions cleared, in time for appearance on the next statement, and then pay off in full, and you will receive maximum benefits.
  • I am a new Santander Edge Credit Card customer and have been spending via Google Pay, pending receipt of the physical card, without issue.

Santander have confirmed that the physical card is now on its way and that, once activated, the £3 monthly fee will be charged to that statement, and then each susequent statement regardless of spend activity.

Got me thinking. If I do not activate that physical card, and just continue to spend on Google Pay, will I avoid that £3 monthly fee (until I need the physical card) or would Santander assume the card has gone astray and block that card number!

    Has anyone tried that?

You need to complete debit transactions to the amount which qualifies for cashback within the appropriate bank "month" after a statement has been produced.
So, yes, anything £750 or more between those dates gets the £15..........for 12 months, then reduces to 1%.
The date your statement is produced is the key.
The £3 fee is taken the day the card is activated and again on the monthly anniversary.

  • Well, I was hoping to get away with not activating the card and thus avoiding the £3 monthly fee, however, due to my card failing to work online again, I activated it via Sandi in the expectation that it would then work. Nope, transaction still declined.

I will have minimum use for this card if I am unable to purchase things online. Main reason for getting it was for the car insurance renewal that is due next month, and upon which I earn 0% cashback with my Chase debit card.

Not in the mood for mindless games with a bot at this time of night, so will explore the issue on Monday morning. I mean, if you are going to decline the transaction, why bother sending me an OTP (and yes, it was entered correctly).

Not a great impression from Santander tbh.
