Not sure why you're preferring Ulster out of the three, do you see a benefit for the process to take longer, which is normally true for Ulster Bank?
One advantage of Ulster is that they offer an easy access savings account offering 5.2% interest on balances over £5,000, which neither of the other 2 offer.

Anyone that applied for NatWest did your application get approved straight away? Or did you have wait up to 2 days
Applied on Friday, was able to set up mobile banking pretty much straightaway and I just had my debit card today. So it was pretty quick in general
Thanks my application taking a bit of time still don’t know if account is open or been accepted

My NatWest debit card just arrived in the post. According to emails/texts both switch to NatWest and RBS should be complete by Mon 26th.
Did you get more emails about this? I only got 1 basically saying the switch has started and should be finished by the 26th. I just received my debit card today as well however no other email about the switch.
As per @danny13579, just the email saying switch was underway and will complete by 26 Feb. I won't expect another communication till that's done.
  • Hi all! I am just about to start my bank switch journey. I just managed to login to my online banking with my dummy account (Bank of Scotland). I have put it a tenner in it already as well but I don't have my debit card just yet.

    Question:
When can I do the switch? Is it too early as I literally just got it today and haven't really used it for any transaction. You don't have to have used the card to be able to switch the account.

Do I need to wait for my debit card and actually make a transaction with it? No, but you will need the card number to provide to Ulster Bank.

Does switching straightaway after just creating a new current account takes a big affect in my credit score?
If you are going to be opening and closing accounts, it can have an effect, but credit scores are not really that important. A few bank switches will not harm a well managed credit history.

Hopefully you can help me with my questions! I'm planning on switching to Ulster as I heard it takes quite a while to get this sorted.

    Thanks!
See my answers in bold above.

You can probably see your new debit card number if you have the Bank of Scotland app. If the app is the same as Lloyds and Halifax.... tap manage card.. bottom right corner... then view card details.

Thank you for the answers! I kind of have a strategy to try and get all bonuses from the 3 banks. I have started using my Monzo account which is now currently being switched to NatWest. I will then do a NatWest to Lloyds then Lloyds to RBS. Since I can't do the switch from RBS to Ulster, I decided to make another dummy account (Bank of Scots) then use that to switch to Ulster.

Although as another member here posted, Ulster have a nice interest rate for Saving over 5,000 so that is a good shout as well!

Rang the specialist account opening team.  They took a full application from me and said everything was fine and may need to do id check again but as I have a cc with them they thought it may not be needed.

Also my original application was declined because of address information. I had only been here 1 year and the pre populated form did not allow for previous address.  They put down to an error on their part.

    Pleased now I appealed.

Anyone signed up with Ulster? Got confirmation of a switch date from them. Got a text saying card and PIN is on the way.
But no email or anything with account number or sort code. No online banking details either.
I applied to open an Ulster Select Account on day one, having previously set up a saver account with them in the hope it would make life easier should this switch offer eventuality arise.

Received a text from them on 16/02 confirming switch date of 23/02.

Can already see the Select Account with sort code and account number in the App and online. Debit card and PIN number have both arrived too.

I'm not confident about receiving the incentive, however, having had one from NatWest about a year ago, but decided it was worth taking a punt.

  • Same here. Just opened another Chase account and will switch that.

I'm sure all good things will come to an end, but if successful this will be almost £1000 in a few months in total.
    Hi!

Is it pretty painless in opening a Chase account? Do they normally do a switching offer? I feel like opening a second current account is a much better way than opening a totally new bank account somewhere else. Also, how many current accounts can you make in Chase? Thanks!

It's pretty painless if they can verify you electronically, as long as you have a compatible smart phone (app only) and are happy to take a video selfie. Haven't seen them do a switch offer, but they are pretty new in the scheme of things. You can open up to 10 Chase accounts simultaneously - only the first requires all the ID checks and then subsequent ones are super fast to open in the app.

As long as you don't close down your final account, then my understanding is that you can keep opening secondary Chase accounts and use them to switch. Whether or not they take a dim view on this is anyone's guess, although I haven't seen anyone report that Chase has gotten annoyed... yet.
  • Can you do this with a joint and a single to get two payments or is it only one? thanks

The good thing about the natwest process if you are using a Chase additional account and dont want to forfit your card (and i assume the same for RBS and Ulster) is that it doesn't require you to give the actual card details, just account number and sort code. You can tick to say you never had a card for that account. Whereas the Lloyds one wanted the long card number, which (I think) will mean the card has to go (well, it will for my nationwide account, but i mean if I had used an additional chase account).
