They then said they would need to carry out final checks and then declined my application. Not sure why as was accepted for the Co op bank and Barclays and nothing on my credit report to spook them. Also I have a Natwest credit card and is no issues there. Also I do not remember being asked for my occupation or income and details of my previous address as only moved here about 1 year ago.
Never had a problem with Barclays or the Co op so not sure what this is all about. Never mind I have my £150 from the co op to look forward to.If you appeal you'll likely be able to apply over the phone instead. I had something similar happen with RBS before. I applied, it said the account was ready, then instantly after I got a email saying they couldn't offer me an account. I appealed and they said to apply over the phone and it should work fine. Which I did do, and got the account opened that way, unfortunately it does mean you'll have a second hard check from them. From what I've seen of previous NW group switch threads, it's reasonably common. They seem to have some criteria they auto reject for, who knows what that is.I'd recommend not bothering with Ulster also. They seem to also have the same criteria too, but unfortunately don't allow appeals. So you'll likely hit the same snag there, but there's no way to get over the road block.Overall I found the scenario a bit odd, at the time my main account was with Natwest, and I didn't even have many hard checks on my record since it was one of my first switches, my record was otherwise clean. I've also done many switches since, with obviously way more checks on my history at that point, and no issues.
I think you could open the account by phone (without asking for the switch), then initiate the switch when you have your internet/mobile banking details.

I opened a new NatWest account yesterday, and scribbled the 'potential' sort code and account no. down. Did the ID process, okay but was left with the message about running a few checks that could take 24 hours. This morning I have an email from them saying to log in to see my Mailbox as there is a message about my new account ending in '477'. (477 matching the 'potential' account from the application).
I last banked with NatWest seven years ago and have no idea of my old log in details.
I gather from their help, that it will be quicker to wait for the new bank card to arrive to get myself back online, to actually read the message, but for those that have also just opened a new NatWest account and have had the same email, is this just a generic 'Welcome to NatWest' message with no instructions to do anything? Or does it have info of a switching date as well?

My OH has a HSBC Advance account, with a Global Money card linked to it. Would a switch to NatWest go ahead in this instance as they can't see how to cancel the linked Global Money card before applying.
We've read of other switches failing if there is another account, like a savings account linked to the current account. They only had the Global Money card to get the extra bonus that HSBC offered, but that wasn't due to pay out until May 2024, and that nor the HSBC account are ever used.0 -
With regard to the £1250 being lodged. If I transfer from a First Direct account that has £1250 in it at the time of transfer, does that count?0

Yes, I had the sms, but wasn't asked to set up for online banking during applying for the new current account as NatWest recognised my details as being a (former) customer. I wasn't able to progress with the Cust. No. they quoted in the sms, as I couldn't remember the rest of the old details I'd used back in 2017. I clicked on the 'forgot my details' but it then just gave the message that it could be quicker to wait for the new card to arrive.1 -

Whether they'll enforce the term this time around remains to be seen though, but if their previous offers are anything to go by they probably won't.35har1old said:HillStreetBlues said:Can I open an new account with bank A today then once account is opened switch to bank B to get the award?
Plus you need active direct debits so they take time to become active0 -

Plus you need active direct debits so they take time to become activeIs there a qualifying NatWest current account I can open that does not require fees or direct debits to be set up please. I’m aware the actual account you switch does not require direct debits.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.0 -
