I just went on and signed up online, as long as you know your customer number its relatively straightforward.brainiack said:
Thanks, got confused on the website as it kept referring to the free 'select' account as 'every day bank account'. All signed up now.Bazzalona13295 said:
Hope so as I've switched to a free one.brainiack said:Is there a free account to open and switch? The terms and conditions say only fee charged accounts are eligible.
Edit - mine will be a 'Select' account which as far as I can see is eligible.
How do you register for online banking, I've had a few texts since applying for the account. One of which is the 'customer number' but don't seem to be able to continue far into the app to sign up. Is the debit card needed for this in due course or an activation code?
Not tried the app yet, I've been looking on here intermittently to see how things were going for everyone else in terms of cards/£12500 -
Thanks for the advice. Very tempted to do the Lloyds one now, but the 2nd direct debit is pending (though I did get a letter from TV licencing to say it is now set up), so I will wait a few more days. Don't want to mess it up (again). Closing date is March 28th and if they end it, it will probably give notice.WillPS said:superdayold said:

I completed the HooYu ID verification procedure when I opened the Ulster Loyalty Saver as a new client two months ago. I can't remember precisely what that entailed, but seem to recall uploading a video.Brewer21 said:Did Ulster Bank ask for proof id/verification like uploading proof or facial recognition etc? Usually I get accepted straight off when applying for accounts but some ask for extra security steps, can't be arsed if they do or is it just in certain circumstances. I don't have a passport or photo driving licence.
No further ID was required when opening the current account yesterday.I applied for Natwest, then had second thoughts because I was switching from a Chase account I would like to use for Lloyds (DDs). I got an account number reserved, but haven't yet competed the HooYu ID check. I contacted them in a chat, to ask about changing / cancelling, but they couldnt find it yet, said to come babk in 2 days. They did say if I cancelled (when i get to that point), I could then reapply and still get the incentive. My Question is - can they have started the switch if i haven't done the ID check yet? Many thanksThey could (it has been known for banks to open accounts before checks are done) but they probably won't in the case of Natwest Group (who don't typically do that as far as I'm aware). If they've asked for checks they'll wait on those checks IME. Get the Lloyds switch underway then complete the ID checks, then cancel the switch to Natwest and create a new one. Worst case, Natwest try to switch an account already being switched away and Chase will reject with a reason of 'already being switched away' or similar.
Also trying do decide if I am going to try 2 of the 3 RBS, Natwest, Ulster. I have set up a metro CA and another chase CA, but not sure if I dare try 2 together. Bit cheeky, but at the time of appying I won't have recieved a switch award from either. So I am thinking wait and do them in tandem.

Yes, they will contact you to do the digital verification by HooYu eventually. They're certainly slower regarding communication and account opening, which frustrates a lot of people who expect everything to happen instantly.Brewer21 said:Never been with Ulster before but I have with NatWest. Currently have an RBS account though.
I can't remember when I had the NatWest incentive, it's got to be around around 4 years ago, maybe less. I've certainly not had one with RBS more recently, I switched to them but no incentive, I didn't qualify.
So my thinking and hoping I can get one via Ulster Bank, no harm in trying. Thing is the application has been done on-line and completed with no notification of them needing id verification, it just says we'll contact you within the next 2 days whilst we do our checks, that's it no account number etc just a reference number.
Is that how it goes with Ulster for most?
There've a few of complaints about Ulster on here about problems withdrawing money and admin peculiarities, but they do have the best savings rate available, and once everything is set up things operate as described.

I have heard from the applications team advising I passed all the checks and goes to the processing team for final checks and check previous history , Equifax and hunter. However I closed my NW account over 3 years ago with no issues and have a NW cc. They said I can appeal.CRISPIANNE3 said:I applied and everything seemed to be going well and the account was reserved for. me. They then said they would need to carry out final checks and then declined my application. Not sure why as was accepted for the Co op bank and Barclays and nothing on my credit report to spook them. Also I have a Natwest credit card and is no issues there. Also I do not remember being asked for my occupation or income and details of my previous address as only moved here about 1 year ago.
Never had a problem with Barclays or the Co op so not sure what this is all about. Never mind I have my £150 from the co op to look forward to.If you appeal you'll likely be able to apply over the phone instead. I had something similar happen with RBS before. I applied, it said the account was ready, then instantly after I got a email saying they couldn't offer me an account. I appealed and they said to apply over the phone and it should work fine. Which I did do, and got the account opened that way, unfortunately it does mean you'll have a second hard check from them. From what I've seen of previous NW group switch threads, it's reasonably common. They seem to have some criteria they auto reject for, who knows what that is.I'd recommend not bothering with Ulster also. They seem to also have the same criteria too, but unfortunately don't allow appeals. So you'll likely hit the same snag there, but there's no way to get over the road block.Overall I found the scenario a bit odd, at the time my main account was with Natwest, and I didn't even have many hard checks on my record since it was one of my first switches, my record was otherwise clean. I've also done many switches since, with obviously way more checks on my history at that point, and no issues.1 -
Think the £1250 has to be in for 24hrs AFTER the switch has taken place . Thats the way I read it anyway. My switch date is next Friday so I'll wait till following Monday to do it. Got 60 days to do it.Bazzalona13295 said:

Processed a switch from a Nationwide donor account back to Natwest this morning. Delighted because I originally switched my second NatWest current account to Nationwide in Nov 2023 to get their £200 but found I wasn’t using the account at all.I’ll wait for everything to complete & the £200 is in, then set up another secondary current account with NatWest to use as a spending account.0
