I'm going to treat the variable DD, like the credit card one.

They tell us what they're going to take, in advance.

We run a modest balance in our current account, so unlikely to ever get caught out by a big bill.

But then anyone here that "knows" me, knows I run a tight ship, financially 😉

I joined Fuse this week. My electricity meter has connected but I’m expecting the gas one never will as British Gas couldn’t get three different meters working in five years.

I like that it gives me a real time view of exactly what I’ve used in the app. Electricity via the smart readings & gas by me putting my own reading in. I used to have to have a spreadsheet to track what I was spending in winter with BG because I’ve never had a working IHD & their app was woeful. & they only billed every three months.

This also means I can top up the account in winter if I want to so I’m not worrying if I can afford to run the heating a bit extra in cold snaps. I feel better having prepaid it than thinking I’ll need to budget for it after the fact.

My monthly DD with British Gas was £100pm so I’ll be putting any change from that in summer into a savings account to then use over winter.

My statement is quite simple it shows opening reading (remote) closing reading (remote) total kw used x daily rate then below it x days x standing charge.

Every month ive checked the remote closing reading its been 100% accurate i fact it has a chart as well that shows each moment its took a reading and if its passed or not with a green square

I'm rapidly approaching the 49 day window to the end of ,what proved to be very good, fix with Fuse. Has anybody in a similar position, managed to get a personal follow up offer from Fuse ?

My gas fix ends 20/09/2026 so in same position as yourself. I’ve not had a follow up offer yet but will contact Fuse next week to see what they will allow. For example can we sign up for a switch now that will not start till the current fix ends?

My fix with Fuse was due to end on 23rd July (electric only). I asked them in June (via chat) if I could sign up to a tariff to start when the current fix ends - this was the reply:

"At Fuse tariff changes cannot be scheduled for a future date and current offers cannot be reserved or locked in. Any new tariff you select will always take effect the next day".

They didn't offer me any specific tariff, just advised me to choose from the tariffs generally available. I chose a new fixed tariff in early July - happily for me it's better than any electricity tariff now available (from Fuse)

I don't see any contradiction there. Unless I'm missing something then that excerpt doesn't say you can schedule the start of a fixed rate for a future date?

When I asked the question I was within the 49 day period

I got a similar reply on chat yesterday as that quoted by post #467 ie once in the 49 day window I can switch tariffs internally without penalty but the tariff will apply from the following day.- implies that no future tariff "hold" is possible. I'm going to leave it until after the new October caps are announced ~ 7th August ?? because my leccy fix is so (relatively!) good.

October 'Price Cap' is due to be announced on the 26th of August.
