Well I for one will be so glad when Spring is definitely here. longing for some warmer sunshine and leaves on the trees. Been a mixed couple of weeks. On the plus side our new bathroom furniture was refitted and we are very pleased with it. The potting shed finally arrived and is currently sat on a trailer in the garden waiting until our friends get back from holiday as they have promised to help build it. Won £200 on the PB's this month too. On the downside our daughter was supposed to visit this weekend but she has come down with some horrific flu type bug so we will have to postpone her visit. Our old neighbour who is still a good friend has been having tests and looks increasingly likely to be cancer, so been worrying about him.
Our best friends are visiting from Yorkshire in a couple of weeks and we will take the opportunity to get some dates and bookings organised for a holiday and some weekends away. For the past couple of weeks I have had trouble sleeping. I drop of to sleep but am waking every couple of hours in the night and it is driving me mad. Been getting up at around 5am each day . Trouble is then by mid afternoon if I sit down I end up nodding off .1 -
A daft suggestion, but are your feet getting cold? It's been suggested to me that it's one reason why you may not sleep well, and I certainly struggle to fall asleep if mine aren't at least encased in fluffy bedsocks.
And someone at a meeting the other day said she had an absolutely foolproof method of falling asleep - you pick a random word, and then think of eg a Girl's Name for each letter, so Mug might be Margaret, Ursula, Greta. She says she's always asleep before she's done this, I pick a longer word with no repeating letters and don't find it works so well, but I then move on to Boy's Name, Country, City etc etc etc and I don't think I got to the end of Cities.
Nothing would induce me to give up on trying to sleep at 5 am ...Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
I have rampant insomnia and listen to audiobooks which usually but not always helps, they turn off automatically after 20 mins and then you have to go back a bit to continue, so I find its best to listen to books I already know the plot of.

Someone at work told me to count backward from 360, in 3s. So 360, 357, 354, 351.......
I found it worked to a point, but once the sequence became too familiar my mind would drift elsewhere, while still counting.0 -
@Savvy_Sue - no my feet are definitely not cold. in fact I have the opposite. Even in the depth of winter I have the window open, the radiator is off, a 4.5 tog quilt and a cool gel mattress as I am always too hot. My feet are always hot too. Sometimes I also have the fan on. Most nights I end up pushing the quilt off too. It's mad cos during the daytime I am quite often chilly. I always read at night and fall asleep easily most nights but then wake up.2

@uralmaid pleased to read that your bathroom is done and that you are pleased with it. Go you winning £200 on the PB's! Sorry to read about your old neighbour's situation. Hope that your daughter is feeling better. I know so many people who have had the same thing.
Nice to plan for the warmer days ahead. I am already thinking about what I will grow in my veg boxes and where we might go for a few long weekends away. Lots of helpful tips on not sleeping, hope one works for you.0 -
Thanks @Humboldt. I can't wait for the better weather. I want to get my new potting shed put up in the next few weeks and then I can pootle about putting my pots etc into it. Some nights I sleep ok and some not as good. I am used to it now. Thankfully my daughter is feeling much better today.2

I am same as you @uralmaid with a 4.5 tog duvet in winter and window open. Haven’t a cool gel mattress but have a natural cotton one which is meant to be cool, 100% cotton duvet sets and a ceiling fan. I do get cold feet when first in bed so sleep with fluffy socks on, though after an hour they get kicked off and I am then looking for cool places on sheet to put them.
I have read several books on sleep as I used to really struggle, my favourite method at moment is counting to 4 seconds when I breathe in, then 4 when breathing out. Supposed to relax the brain, works for me most of time. I also have a nighttime wind down routine of my magnesium and Vitamin D and a 30 minute read.
No premium bonds wins for a couple of months unfortunately.
