Toni'sfriend said:Yesterday was a bit of a traumatic day to say the least. I went for my pre op assessment and while I was in the hotel attached having lunch I got a phone call asking me to come in tomorrow and have surgery on Thursday. I think they had a cancellation. When I stood up I keeled over bringing the table, chair, a planter, glasses, etc, etc with me. It was so embarrassing. I think they thought I was drunk but when I explained rather tearfully what had happened they were really nice. I think my already high blood pressure just shot up after the phone call. Anyway, they phoned the Boy and he came a brought me home.
So, I'm here trying to cancel appointments and deliveries and get myself organised.

Such a shock for you @Toni'sfriend but ultimately good news as it will get it over and done with. We will all be thinking about you, wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to 'seeing' you back here xxA 'meh' sort of day as I have been waiting since 8am to have smart meters fitted that I don't really want. Apparently, my new energy supplier tells me, the current ones are at the end of their lives and need to be replaced. It seems I don't have any say in the matter. This is different from the emails and texts I have been getting for years urging me to get them.I didn't have any say in the energy supplier either come to that, as the old one wanted to divest itself of retail customers, which I assume means ordinary households. Apparently the engineers are on the way now though. And I have spent the time doing small and annoying jobs that I don't have to think about any more, so all good. And I am informed that the new energy company is a good one, if such existI have:Pegged a load of washing out on the line as it is dry and a bit windy. Should dry a bit at least!Cleaned both of my pairs of boots so I don't have to go to work in muddy bootsHoovered the middle floor and dusted the furnitureCleaned the bathroomSqueezed the juice out of the sad and elderly oranges in the fruit bowl. One was a blood orange which has turned the juice a rather unappetising colour, but no matterCleaned out my small G-Tech vacuum cleaner - I don't use it much as it needs emptying and cleaning after every use. I much prefer the Henry!Aargh, the smart meter people have just been and apparently there isn't enough space in the electricity meter box to fit a smart meter. And they can't fit the gas one without doing the electricity one too. So I have waited in all day for nothing. No doubt the energy company will whinge about that, but I am not ripping the house to pieces to make the meter cupboard bigger for no reason, when the meters I have work perfectly well. I wasn't convinced by the smart meter guys either. They seemed pleased that they don't have to do the jobWhat an annoying day! But at least I got some annoying jobs done!9

@DawnW. I had smart meters fitted last week & they don’t work. Now I don’t even know how to read said meters as they make no sense. @beanielou I have been avoiding having them fitted for years. Now it seems that I will continue to avoid it. It takes me a maximum of 5 minutes per month to take readings and enter them into the energy company's web site....

On another note, thank you for reminding me to do the meter reading, it was completely out of my mind this month!Debt free journey started 30/08/2023:

Oh my goodness! We seem to be a stronghold of smart meter rebels! I don't have one either, and they must ring twice a week at the minute. The bill is in my name, so they won't talk to DH, and he answers the house phone.
@Toni'sfriend We are all with you in spirit. Imagine not having to bother about hospital appointments this summer and being free to go wherever you want, whenever you want. Less time for you to be fretting about it anyway. Just shout 'Plot Twist' and go with it. 3
The top floor glossing is over. It looks great (in electric light anyway) I will invade DS3s room tomorrow and decorate in there while he is at school. I sneaked in there at lunchtime and sprayed the historic damp patch on the ceiling with masking spray. I am finally making visible progress.Hugs to all who need them, we are here for you to vent, shout, rant, or moan.Turtle shoulders don't get damp. it is why we have waterproof shells.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Today I am grateful for the hyacinths starting to emit their lovely scent as I walk past, for getting some online training done, for some glorious sunshine, for pip having some important paperwork arrive.
