What busy bee's you've all been! Hope tomorrow goes well @DawnW & your work trip too @Starlight_at_Sea.
NSD#1 woo hoo!
Was up before DH today. Emptied the clothes airer & put wet things on it, hoovered when he got up & put some things I'd sorted yesterday for donating, in the shed. Quite windy & some showers, but I wrapped up & walked just under 5 miles, whilst listening to the radio.
A quick dinner & read my book, then s couple of ladies came over to discuss me making them a couple of memory bears & memory cushions. Did a hand sewing job & fixed a zip, so didn't have to replace the whole thing 😃
Did the ironing after tea & finally got January's spends totted up. Had a couple of big bills (DS1's emergency hotel room & new parts for the car), didn't have enough saved in the sinking funds, so will have to come from savings instead. Have had a few bigger bills for the car, so anything saved would've covered them instead.
Had a soak in the bath with a face mask & a hair mask.
Had a message from dad (hardly hear from him) to say my 22 year old half brother has had a little girl today. Will need to check the spelling, as my dad isn't the best speller!
Grateful for going for a walk, the wind being behind me most of the way, nice customers, baby Myla arriving safelyUse it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

If it’s not the roof, fence, or shed getting demolished by the weather, it’s a substantial sized stone (the size of a large fist) smashing through the car grid and doing damage to whatever that bit behind the grid is.No NSD today. I bought a throw-in-the-oven lasagne for tonight’s dinner and a carton of milk because we seem to have been overindulging on it and are now low.Gratitudes todayThat the stone went through the car’s grid rather than the window and into OH’s face, that OH is fine, for the kind call handler at car insurer, for Mum’s delicious soup from freezer for lunch, and for having some savings in the emergency fund to deal with all these Murphy’s Law incidents!

Very windy so take care all. Sorry this happened to you Idee. Not an NSD as bought meal deal for work lunch. Had expected to be home by then so didn’t bring lunch with me. Also bought lovely blue cheese. Craved it when I saw it so I’m sure it will do me good!Walked up and down lots of flights of stairs at work so am delighted. I’ve been off with a chest infection so it was really good to see I could do this.Gratitudes
lovely lovely work colleagues
free exercise at work!My kind and supportive DH10 -
I so hate exercise. Always have done. I expect it's because I was never very good at sporty things. I like to walk but this awful wind is restricting me somewhat. Still I am persevering with the physio and breathing exercises. I suspect I may not be doing them properly but something is better than nothing, I guess. And the more I keep on going the easier it will get (I hope).
Getting a little depressed about not losing weight. I'm really trying but it just doesn't seem to be happening. I know, of course, that some of the medication isn't helping but it's so dispiriting..
Sorry. I'm being a bit me. me. me these days.
Hope you all have a lovely evening. xxxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.12 -
3 NSD for me, still eating from freezer and cupboards, I will probably need to buy milk on Thursday.
I love pancakes but they don’t taste the same with gluten-free flour.
I batch cook. so when I make a HM ready meal its a game of Tetris to find room in the freezer, then it’s potluck as I rarely write on the container whats inside.
I am enjoying the longer days especially when it’s sunny. I spent 3 hours in the garden on Sunday sifting compost ready for seed sowing, filled s 40ltr bag, then turned bin contents and refilled bin, with meterial I did not have room before, very pleased with the quality of my home-made compost as the bagged stuff now seems to have a lot of plastic in it. Lots of weeds pulled or dig out, Alkanet and brambles get everywhere.Sundays dinner was home-made sausage and onion toad, mushy peas and a jacket potato, I use gluten-free flour, doesn’t rise but you still get a good flavour, and tonight‘s dinner was home-made Thai curry and rice.
As I plan to move later this year I am gradually sorting through and reducing the amount of things that I have and as others have said I don’t want to have to take a lot of stuff that I will keep in boxes.Grateful for my own compost, Meditation and managing to fix a drawer that fell apart.I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.10 -
Had a good and very indulgent Sunday again yesterday, but a very good Saturday. I did my volunteering in the morning, and since I was due to finish just before 2pm I called OH and told him I felt like going and have a pub lunch. So went to a lovely riverside pub with view on the local marina, and I had the best red wine and beef pie, and was very happy. we haven't had a lunch out in so long, so it was worth the splurge. I was very proud of our little dog, as she was so well behaved and got lots of compliments.
When we came home, we sat down watching a movie and I finished a crochet scarf/shawl which I started almost 3 years ago, and helps in both decluttering (one less WIP going round the house) and decluttering (I'm only using wool from existing stash).
Yesterday morning I finished another long term project, a corner to corner crochet blanket, and I finished up some more leftover wool. This one is already neatly folded on my crafting / TV watching chair, and fills me with joy because it has such beautiful colours! After that we had a Sunday brunch at home, then we went to the big park with the dog to let her run. When we came back home I cleared a few project bags from the last few months, putting neatly needles, crochet hooks and other tools away, setting aside the leftovers (I have a small bag of leftovers which I am going to bring to a friend for her own corner 2 corner blanket) for next projects. I then opened the Vin.d box, and took out 14 items I had listed more than 4 years ago, and despite being almost new and great quality and super low price haven't managed to sell them, so I put them in a bag to ship them off to the red cross (you can book the service and they send you a shipping label and bag), so they can put them to good use and i claimed a bit of space in the box. I have a few occasion dresses which I need to photograph and list, but at that point I was feeling a bit tired so I left that job for another day.
Today was uneventful and beginning of week day of work. I am pleased because I saw my manager has booked off some scattered days off from February to April (she never takes time off), and I am looking forward to those days, as she is very demanding and I always feel I need to be 110% and super switched on when she is around, and I am starting to find it a bit stressful, so am looking forward to some slower pace days when she is not around.
I also took the decision to try a different transport route to the office tomorrow, as I have figured out that I can save £588 a year by taking two buses to work instead of the train + tube. It will take me about 30 minutes longer each way, but for that saving I think it is totally worth it, plus I only go once a week for the time being, so it's kind of ok. I will report back tomorrow night on how my bus commute was.
Now I am going to get everything ready for tomorrow, have dinner, and will try and force myself to go to bed early(-ish). Will resume knitting on a vest that I started last Summer, which is shaping up to be quite pretty, so I'd like to finish it before Winter is totally over!
@DawnW hope you brother was ok after his first treatment today, my thoughts are with you and your family tonight.

A crazy few days here, hence the radio silence. Saturday saw a great 6 Nations rugby game between 'us' and our opponents, resulting in our (heroic!) side losing by a fraction! DH had a great time at the match and thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with old friends. He was buzzing when he got home - a welcome change from his grumpy usual self!
Sunday, dear Bro and I set off to visit step-mum in hospital - about 30 minutes drive away from where we live, only to be told that she had been moved on Friday to another hospital about 30 minutes in the other direction. Apparently nobody in Hospital 1 had thought to notify us. The staff at the new hospital let us see her for a short while but step-mum, whilst her mobility has improved seems to have lost the ability to interact verbally with us which is concerning and sad. The latest hospital is supposed to be rehabilitating her and making her more independent but she's in a tiny room with very little contact with others, and what really upset me was that she was wearing somebody else's clothes which hardly fitted her as she is tiny. If only I had been informed I could have made sure that she had day clothes of her own to wear. Total lack of communication, a friend of mine has called it 'de-humanising' and I think I agree with her.
Today has been calmer, took DD2 to GP surgery to have stitches removed from a biopsy she had done on her nose last week and I had a trip to the dentist to which resulted in a temporary filling and the news that my four front lower jaw teeth are going to need some work following a fall I had some years ago when my lower jaw smashed itself up on some concrete steps, ouch! Sounds like I have the choice of a bridge or a plate (latter seems to be the go-to definition for false teeth) I've decided to opt for the bridge for the time being.
Meeting my brother tomorrow to make some plans regarding Step-mum going forward and hopefully a fairly quiet day.
Sending lots of love to the Turtle Gang, sorry I have been a bit slow in reacting to posts.
Gratitudes:
My DS, just because he's so wise sometimes
A really nice chat with my lovely dentist who told me that DS2 and I were so alike
A Robin and a Great Tit feeding on the bird food at the bottom of the garden

Sorry for my absence, my eyes are really sore so I haven't had the laptop on a lot. Lots of washing done and in and out on the line. More recycling done. I have made 2 appointments for free valuations on grandma's house (would have been 3 but one said all their people were busy and to leave a message and then it said there was no room for any more messages.
I think I'm going to buy the new washing machine (new to me) and have written down the details for the shop around the corner (can see all the back of it across the car park). Food was all sorts of odds and ends (last tin of tomato soup gone) and had a tin of pineapples.
Grateful for getting things done, having a rest on the couch (DS3 was asleep so I could stretch my legs), taking my time getting ready as I couldn't get to sleep so needed to start the day gently. Tiny wins (making the WM work for a living (started on the quilts - not sure if there are more records hidden on the sofa), loving my pods - they make me feel good.8 -
I agree, that sounds like a not-very-patient-centred-at-all kind of system Flying_by. I think there is so much strain on the hospital systems these days, that they don't seem to be able to make good use of those who are there and can support the ill person, and who would willingly do things like provide clothes etc. I found it took a long time in each of mum's care settings to find my way around in order to be helpful, and a short orientation as a patients-carer would have been in everyone's interest.
I am in bed. There is awfully weak phone signal and very patchy WiFi at my work accomodation - it's notorious for it! Have just downloaded a couple of iPlayer programmes by hanging my phone and hand out of the window to get a signal, I might just listen to those, or even have a digital detox and just get an early night. As I anticipated, I am really enjoying being here, but am too peopled out to want to go and hang out in the social spaces!
NSD today, haven't left site and can't really get online! Did sort something out with my cousin so we are booked on a half day cookery course in a few months time, courtesy of a voucher I had last year that is expiring in may. That's birthday time and I realised I had several vouchers of various things that may get lost if not used, as things got quite busy on the carrying front post may. So this is the second thing I've booked in for free, the other is getting my 'colours' done, which will be interesting. Am aiming to update my summer wardrobe a bit with that information in hand!8
