    Good morning all

Are you all having a good day?? Welcome Gingham, love your avatar, used to love little house on the Prairie, my sister and I dream of living in a little logcabin (with Michael Landon of course )

What is Scan bran? Some sort of cracker? Looked in Sainsbury for it but couldn't see it.

So far so good, definately not hungry which I hate the most about being on a diet. Can't wait until my first weigh-in.

Going to see what I have in the fridge/cupboard to have for luch, red, green, decisions decisions...

Scan bran is like ryvita except less tasty and more carboardy! I don't think you can get it outside of SW groups though I could be wrong!

Thanks all for the support, I am so pleased with my weightloss so far, in fact I felt quite elated after my weigh in :j

To anyone who is struggling, or is disappointed with their weightloss, hang on in there, and keep the end goal in mind. We will all have good and bad weeks, and we will all have different rates of weightloss, but you WILL get there if you persevere. I know it's not easy sometimes, but I think it helps if you see SW as a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix diet.
  • Well done to everyone with their losses!!! Gingham, it is almost too ridiculous to work isn't it? but it does!
Scan brans are available at Holland and Barratt, through your consultant (maybe, they don't all stock it) and online here. They are a bit thinner and brannier than anything I have ever tasted as they are 85% bran! But they are so low in syns they can be a handy thing to have for moments when you needs something and you can HEB them and get 5 which is a generous amount. Three fill the hunger gap really and so I either just make a pig of myself or keep 2 for later in the day. They are meant to really boost your weightloss apparently so I am having a few in the week, but if you have them drink plenty, mind you it would be hard not to.

Could you please let me know how to turn the avatars on. I have often wondered why I can't see them when people have mentioned them!

    Thanks

still can't see the value in saying a spud is 5 points and a kipper is 2 or a tomato is green and a mars bar is red. Is that something you can do for the rest of your life? do you want to ? and if you stop will your weight come back ? you have got to exercise as well as watch what you eat. Seems to me all they concentrate on is the food. whilst you lob in more calories than you burn you will not achieve anything. If it was just a case of dieting we would all be slim would we not ?

Have just found this thread and only read the first 5 or 6 pages so far, so forgive me if this post has been answered...........

Acehole, you have obviously found a way that works for you so well done.

However, your way is NOT the only way and others have found that SW suits them and helps them, so please don't keep rubbishing food optimising when you quite clearly know nothing about it.....I will be happy to pass on my knowledge should you wish to learn :D

Food Optimising is a healthy eating regime which is perfectly safe for all the family to follow, from the youngest to the oldest. There are no gimmicks and no cutting out of any of the major food groups. It is recommended by Slimming World that members follow an exercise regime as well, though we know for a fact that it is perfectly possible to lose weight - and keep it off - with no exercise at all.

The (healthy) eating plan you will follow as a member of SW is one that all of us should be eating anyway, so in order to keep the weight off you need do no more than to carry on with it, though you will find that you can increase your healthy extras somewhat in order to maintain your new weight rather than keep on losing.

For those members asking about the password - it is not permitted to post this as it is copyright protected and infringement of the rules can result in the site being closed down

Pammiid1980 your Consultant was insensitive to say the least, but it is normal for a new member to lose in the region of 5lbs during their first week. However, there are lots of factors which could cause this to not be the case, so don't worry (hope you're seeing results by now).

I wouldn't bother buying your own scales, in fact, I honestly think they cause a lot of grief. The SW scales are worth several hundred pounds and are self-calibrating so no matter what you pay, you're never going to get ones as good, and getting weighed more than once a week can be self defeating.

Finally, if you find it helpful to keep a food diary then do it. SW don't provide them routinely to members because they feel it can lead to obsessing about what you eat, but if it keeps you focussed, I can't see that it will do any harm.

I hope I haven't trodden on any toes by posting, but if anyone needs any help, just ask! By the way, if you go to the "I wanna" board there is a weight loss thread sticky which has a link on post 1 to the recipe board where you'll find lots of SW recipes (as well as other low fat, low cal types).
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Well, second weigh-in this week and I'd lost 2.5lb, making a total of 12lb in two weeks!

I got Slimmer of the Week, and Slimmer of the Month for January (and I was only a member for one week in January!!).

    Very happy indeed :)

What I've noticed is that I'm NOT obsessing about food. I have eaten SO much today but I still have a 2 healthy options to choose tonight PLUS 14 syns if I want them.

I had porridge with frozen forest fruits plus a rivita and banana for breakfast, sprouted beans for a snack, egg, (quorn) sausage, mushrooms, beans and tomato for lunch, 3 bean chilli with lots of veg and a baked potato for dinner.

It seems to me this is just a way of structuring a high fibre low fat diet (for those of us who KNOW what we should be doing but can't quite get it right!)
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
